How can you engage chemistry students and help them learn? Why not give them a crime to solve! CSI Nottingham was created to help year two students learn lab techniques. Learn more about it in the recording of our webinar 'Transforming the lab practical for a new generation' - https://lnkd.in/gXwQCVqs

Every lab session is a link connecting theory to real-life applications. An experiment is the anchor point that turn hypotheses into theories and assumptions into facts.

Really excited to discuss GaLore at our webinar next week. This training strategy was added into Hugging Face accelerate within a week and the Gradient is constantly pushing the boundaries of how we can make training more efficient. #GradientAI #GenerativeAI #LLMs #Training
We're excited to have Jiawei Zhao join us as we deep dive into his groundbreaking research around Gradient Low-Rank Projection (GaLore) - a training strategy that allows full-parameter learning and is more memory-efficient than common low-rank adaptation methods such as LoRA. We'll also touch base on InRank while we're at it so you won't want to miss out! 🔗 https://lnkd.in/grXqBB7M 📅 Thursday May 23rd 🕐 1pm PST

🚨New preprint🚨 Free associations are a powerful approach to mapping human and artificial minds. I am very excited to see this tutorial, led by Samuel Aeschbach and with Rui Mata, finally out.
I am happy to share a preprint of a tutorial with Rui Mata and Dirk Wulff, PhD on analyzing free associations using our new R package associatoR! Have a look... 📄 at the preprint: https://lnkd.in/eqQHEfB8 💻 at the R package: https://lnkd.in/e4nCvdiH

Chemistry graduate student Abimbola Ige was featured in a Duluth News Tribune Article for her participation in the STEMpathy event at Lincoln Park Middle School in Duluth. Ige, a member of the Maurer-Jones lab, was explaining microplastics to sixth and seventh grade students. One of the lab’s projects, with support from the Institute on the Environment Impact Grant, is to develop kits for citizen scientists to collect and count microplastics in Minnesota waters. https://lnkd.in/eDw3mjeM

Annual Markov Chains Photo! 😊 Markov chains concluded last week with the in-class game of Chutes & Ladders (also known as Snakes & Ladders), where students collaborate (in teams) and compete (against other teams) to mathematically model this classic board game using Markovian analysis. The game is inspired by Thomas Sharkey’s lecture videos. On to the next chapter of ISE 540:338 (Probabilistic Models in Operations Research) at Rutgers University Industrial and Systems Engineering! 🚀

Know Locating. Paul Larkin and I have been around enough know a few things about locating. Do we know everything? No. But here's what we know for sure: 1. Locating is 100% science where results are repeatable and predictable when all factors are known. 2. All factors are never 100% known, so locating becomes a mix of art and science. 3. The art is knowing how to analyze information to determine the next step. Here's a throwback video shot on campus at Staking University in 2005. Paul and I team up to show the cause-and-effect of a far-end ground.

From May 29 to 31, 2023, I had the opportunity to participate in the workshop "Materials with high electronic correlation" taught by Pablo Sosa Lizama Who during those days explained to us about this type of materials. We analyzed the mechanisms of electron-electron interaction and their implications in properties such as superconductivity, magnetism, and how these, due to their great potential, can revolutionize various industries...

Join us on June 28 for the next Education Journal Club, “Grey Matter Mysteries: Unveiling Neuroanatomy Through Cadaver Instruction.” Cadaver dissection is one of the highest-rated days of paramedic school for those programs lucky enough to have access to a cadaver lab. However, a fun experience does not always equate to student learning. Join us as we review “A Know-Brainer: The Power of Cadaver-Based Instruction to Teach Clinical Neuroanatomy” and ask whether cadaver dissections help improve learning. https://ow.ly/7yKU50SlAM2
