Can thermoplastics contribute to sustainability❔ The answer is a resounding 𝒀𝑬𝑺. Engineering plastics are integral to many industries, including electronics, aerospace, automotive manufacturing, or medical technology. Let us show you how thermoplastics contribute to more sustainability. ♻️ Recyclability Unlike many other plastics, thermoplastics can be repeatedly melted and re-extruded. At Ensinger, we recycle production by-products back into the material cycle. Their natural colour ensures easy sorting and reintegration. 🚗 Lightweight construction Plastics are exceptionally light and offer superior mechanical and chemical properties relative to their weight. This significantly reduces weight and therefore fuel consumption. 🌱 Bio-based materials Our raw materials don’t have to be chemically derived. They can also be bio-based. Ensinger offers such alternatives, where part of the raw material is organic, sourced from wood industry waste or organic refuse. These materials have a substantially reduced carbon footprint compared to conventional counterparts. Want to know more about sustainability at Ensinger? Polyolefin plastics are everywhere, from packaging to household goods. Their low cost and durability make them indispensable, but there's a downside: they persist in our environment, contributing to plastic waste and pollution. This brings us to biodegradable polymers. Among these, polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are promising. These bioplastics mimic many properties of traditional plastics but degrade naturally over time, reducing environmental impact. However, high production costs and thermal instability still pose challenges to PHAs' widespread adoption. Advanced simulation tools enable us to investigate and design new materials that not only meet the functional demands of traditional plastics but are also more sustainable. Modeling techniques allow us to work in areas like thermal stability, degradation, mechanical resilience, processing and formulation, helping us identify and develop viable alternatives before they even reach the lab. At Materys, we specialize in using simulations to drive materials innovation. We support companies in their quest to refine material properties to meet real-world demands. #sustainability #materialscience #molecularsimulation #Materys #innovation
