Trade show tips- know your audience and be bold! Last week, the Dressit.ai team and I made our digital debut at the National Bridal Market Chicago with a blend of strategy, fear, and a lot of pink and green. Our mantra? "No More Dress FOMO!” We knew our audience, and leveraging my prior experience as a bridal boutique owner/buyer and attendee, we exceeded expectations at the event. So, I wanted to share some of my tips: Catchy tagline:  "No More Dress FOMO" wasn't just a slogan; it was our statement piece, worn proudly on our branded tops and across our shiny pink totes. Booth visitors often inquired about purchasing our tees and sweatshirts, loved the saying for themselves, and were thrilled to enter our giveaway for co-branded merch, complete with the tagline. It made me think that I should trademark it! The power of a great tote:  For a decade, I was a bridal shop owner and buyer on the other side of the event, always searching for the cool totes that I saw others carrying around—a great accessory for storing your line sheets. At this event, we saw hundreds of our Dressit totes circulating around the Merchandise Mart, drawing even more interest to our booth. Dress the part:  My partner, a Miss Ohio representative, wore statement-making bling pants and 4" heels (she needs practice for the pageant) while I kept things casual in sneakers and branded tops. We learned that authenticity with a touch of statement draws people in. Pre-show buzz:  This may have been the most important strategy. We didn't wait for the show to start connecting. A few weeks prior, targeted bridal shops received cute boxes with goodies and a QR code, leading to a custom landing page hyping up our product and booth. The excitement when they approached our booth and said, "there's Dressit," was a highlight of our day. Tech-Savvy Engagement:  With QR codes for easy email sign-ups and an iPad, we made connecting with us a breeze. Plus, we learned a valuable lesson: always appreciate the tech openness across generations in the bridal industry. Bold Visuals: I needed a huge 10 foot fabric banner, something easy to hang, to anchor the back of my booth. So, I reached out to my former colleagues at Marketing.com, who can handle large-format printing and tradeshow set-ups with ease. My design and messaging came to life, and I could easily reference talking points as needed. When neighboring booth models could pitch Dressit as well as I could, we knew we'd made an impact. We learned a lot in three days, adjusted our approach several times and realized it's easy to pitch your idea or product if you believe in it, too. When I worked on the marketing strategy for a bridal boutique with fierce local competition, two key insights shaped our direction: 1. Brides often told us how kind and welcoming our staff was, which, surprisingly, wasn’t the norm for other boutiques in the area. 2. Plus-size brides shared heartbreaking experiences—being told there weren’t dresses in their size or, worse, that a thin friend could model dresses for them instead. Hearing that was sobering. Brides already face pressure to feel beautiful on their big day, and for plus-size brides, that pressure is often magnified by a lack of options and sensitivity. We knew we could do better. The first step was clear: we needed more plus-size gowns. But we went further, stocking MUCH larger sizes than necessary. Why? Every bride loves the moment they’re “clipped into” a dress that’s slightly too big. Rubber-tipped clips pull the fabric snugly, creating a flattering fit and sparking excitement. For plus-size brides, that moment was stolen—replaced with gowns that didn’t zip and extenders awkwardly holding fabric together. By stocking dresses in much larger sizes, we gave every bride—even size 26 brides—the chance to feel that transformative moment. It wasn’t just about looking beautiful; it was about feeling sexy, celebrated, and seen. These brides became our most fervent brand ambassadors. Their happiness—and the joy shared by their friends and family—fueled word-of-mouth referrals. Even brides who didn’t find their dream dress with us spread the word about their positive experience. This shift wasn’t just about stock. We revamped the website to highlight inclusivity, launched plus-size styled shoots on social media, and built a strategy that showcased our commitment to celebrating all brides. But it was the emotional resonance of those in-store moments that drove appointments and sales the most. For a store with a tiny marketing budget to spend it was major. This experience reinforced a truth: success comes from creating emotional resonance. Yes, offering larger sizes solved a practical problem, but the deeper issue was that these brides felt excluded and overlooked. We asked: “How do we make them feel celebrated?” In marketing, we talk about “meeting customers where they are.” For us, it meant flipping the script on what plus-size brides expected. Instead of awkward accommodations, we gave them a moment to shine—a moment many had assumed they’d never experience. Good marketing isn’t just about filling gaps. It’s about crafting moments that matter. Those tears of joy weren’t just about dresses; they were about being seen and prioritized. So, the takeaway? Don’t just meet practical needs. Ask yourself what will make your audience feel valued. That’s where the magic happens. Whether running a campaign or designing an experience, aim to create moments of emotional connection. The Ultimate Fashion Tip for Grooms Dear Groom, How can you take the plain canvas of a black tuxedo (or suit) and a white shirt and still express your own colorful, quirky self? Easy! Select a matching set of a tie (or bow tie), pocket square, and socks which express your individuality! So how can you zhuzh up your look on your wedding day? First, let’s take a step back. Think of your suit jacket, pants, and shirt as the major canvas of your outfit. These are the parts of you that will be seen first and foremost by your bride and your guests. Now, think of the small parts of your ensemble—your tie (or bow tie), pocket square, and your socks. Yep, look down there because socks are becoming a huge part of wedding fashion! In the past, a man’s socks were usually the same shade of black as his trousers and his shoes, so they just blended together. At some weddings, the groom and his Dude Crew wore white socks so there was a clear differentiation between their pants and their shoes. If they moved or danced, the white peaked out and was a fun change from black, black, black. Recently, grooms and their crew opted for brightly colored or patterned ties and pocket squares which leveled up their looks. Now the trend extends down to the socks. Grooms and groomsmen are selecting a bow tie (or tie), pocket square, and socks in a bright pattern which are intended to capture attention. One thing to consider: “Unexpected reds” is a 2026 wedding trend.
