Communities are integral to both our personal and professional spheres, providing invaluable support and connection. I'd love to hear about the communities close to your heart! Here are a few that hold immense value for me: 1. My faith community: A source of spiritual nourishment, shared values, and belonging. Being a part of this community has helped me grow in all aspects of my life. 2. Foster family community: Last year my wife and I became foster parents (easily one of the best decisions of our life but I’ll save that for a seperate post.) This is a phenomenal network of support, understanding, sharing resources and advocacy for children. 3. Young Professionals: A platform for networking, growth, and mutual mentorship in the early stages of our careers. Recent incidents of bullying and conflicts among students, like the one at Eagle Ridge Middle School, and the one at St. Louis Park High School, and the one at East Ridge High School, and the on in Roseville, remind us of the urgent need for action in our communities. As educators, parents, and community members, we cannot stand idly by while our young people suffer. At Inclusive Spaces, I refuse to accept a reality where young people feel unsafe or marginalized in their own learning environments. Our Belong Believe Begin Model™ and initiatives like the BEE Brave™ Initiative are designed to empower students with the skills and support they need to navigate conflicts peacefully and productively. But I can't do it alone. I need your help to make a real difference in the lives of young people. Are you a really good and well rounded educator or school leader, if you have: 🔩Always taught or led in well funded, well staffed, well equipped schools? 🔩Always taught or led people that look like you when you live in multi-cultural/ multiracial communities and have (had) many opportunities to volunteer or teach (lead) in low fee (impoverished) schools? 🔩Never advocated for equal opportunities for all children in your schools and around the world regardless of their background? 🔩 Always see all disruptive behavior from students in the classroom as “bad” instead of it being an invitation to empathize and dig deeper-what could be the cause? Are the needs of this students being met at home or school? Is there a learning disability or are there other problems that need addressing?

The best kind of work is where your values (what you believe) and your emotional drives (what energizes you) all come together. I wake up every day, grateful for my work, which challenges and delights and helps others shape a better world. And I’m so glad and proud that Ascent Leadership Networks, LLC enables me to volunteer for organizations that do the same. Every year, my family and I spend a week supporting the New England Hemophilia Association’s camp for people and families with bleeding disorders, a life-threatening chronic condition. This week reminds me of the best that I see in Ascent, and challenges me to see more deeply: * at Ascent, I see people coming together, building community, sharing knowledge , expertise and mutual support to help each other reach their goals. At Family Camp, I see people breaking their armor open, sharing their fears, their triumphs and their hidden hopes with strangers. There, a caring heart, a listening ear - and trust - matters more than any expertise or knowledge. * At Ascent, I see leaders push themselves beyond their perceived limits, growing into the people they want to be in the world. At Family Camp, I see children and young adults doing the same, pushing past fear, learning to use needles to give themselves their medicine, unlocking a life lived with a disorder - but not ruled by it. *At Ascent, we teach leaders to listen inclusively, and learn from the people around them. At Family Camp, I see young adults adapting to neurodiverse campers with a range of medical challenges, creating safe, caring spaces. Creating families of choice. Every year, Family Camp reminds me how much is possible - and to never underestimate the possibility in another person.
