AssetAssurance Monitoring will be joining Ritvick B. in #Natural_Bridge, #Virginia for the upcoming Center for Engineering Geoscience and Geohazards in Appalachia (CEGGA) #TFG2024 ( Technical Forum for Geohazards Impacting Transportation in Appalachia). A continuation of the #CEGAS (https://lnkd.in/gkRW9N3K) event sponsored by #Marshall_University for many years, and an annual focus on local, regional, and Agency geotechnical innovation, practice, awareness. The archive of past editions is here: (https://lnkd.in/gJdd9uqx), and the 1st event proceedings in 2002 - https://lnkd.in/gpdxWV3V , containing topics still valid and being updated today! We have attended several times as representatives of RaDAR monitoring instrumentation businesses (GroundProbe, and IDS GeoRadar) and continue to advocate for active monitoring using traditional in-situ sensors, and now we can say new tradition active monitoring instruments. Affordability of tools, materials, and the innovative application of these and engineering practices applied to ongoing #geohazards allows for an expansion and regional application of potentially inter-connected #geohazards, and #Geotechnical_Assets populated databases and reference monitoring environments. Our colleagues at Encardio Rite, and Proqio are working to instill this opportunity with investment in operations in the USA, and development and release of Proqio as an active data platform for creating local, area, regional and larger data monitoring networks. #RRM #Geohazards #monitoring #LiDAR #RaDAR #micro_seismic #TDR #piezometers #inclinometers #tiltmeters #environmental_data
Encardio Rite is excited to announce our participation in the 21st Annual Technical Forum on Geohazards in Virginia, hosted by the Center of Geoscience and Geohazards in Appalachia (CEGGA) from April 9th-11th. Ritvick B. will be in attendance and will be presenting a paper on 'The move from observations to active monitoring : The Proqio platform and modern data synthesis.' We look forward to contributing to the discussions and connecting with other professionals in the field. Don't miss the opportunity to meet us and learn more about Proqio's applications in monitoring for geohazards. Through research and more than eight decades of seismic surveys around the world, EnerGeo Alliance and federal agencies have found no conclusive evidence to indicate that seismic surveys harm fish populations. Research proves seismic surveying is the safest, cleanest and more energy-efficient technology for generating geological imagery. #SeismicSurveys #Research #EnvironmentalSafety #GeologicalImagery #MarineResearch #SeismicResearch

This infographic summarises the results of the "Economic Valuation of Landsat and Landsat Next" report, published recently, and commissioned by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), detailing the quantitative and qualitative benefits of the Landsat satellites that have acquired imagery since 1972. The report also includes a forward-looking analysis on the economic, societal and environmental benefits from the new Landsat Next program. I was very fortunate to be part of an amazing team of economists and researchers that worked on this important report. While this figure provides a high-level summary of the results of the report, I encourage you to check out the report, or maybe just the executive summary, to understand why this figure is actually a huge underestimation and also why any policies that lead to charging for Landsat data is not an economically rational option. A link to the report is the comments below.

Two weeks ago, we had the pleasure of attending a lecture by Alf Kristian Lund from NGI - Norwegian Geotechnical Institute at Geoteknikkdagen. In it, he highlighted the value of integrating cutting-edge technology with traditional geoscience methods. His insights demonstrated how our technology and dynamic model are reshaping the future of ground investigations. A great example of this innovative approach was demonstrated in the E6 Kvithammar-Åsen project: Helicopter-Based Geoscanning in Action 🚁 During the zoning plan phase, helicopter-based geoscanning was combined with traditional investigation methods to strategically position ground investigations and continuously refine the bedrock model using machine learning algorithms. Key takeaways from the project include: 💡Project Scope: Developing a 19 km four-lane highway northeast of Trondheim to improve traffic safety and reduce travel time. 💡Innovative Approach: Integrating airborne electromagnetics (AEM) with geophysical and traditional data creates a dynamic, continuously updated bedrock model. 💡Cost Savings: Optimizing road alignment and reducing extensive investigations led to savings of approximately 250 MNOK. 💡Collaboration: Success was driven by the partnership between Nye Veier, Hæhre Entreprenør, and NGI/Aas Jakobsen. This project showcases how innovative technologies, like those we specialize in at EMerald Geomodelling, can revolutionize infrastructure projects by improving accuracy, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Interested in exploring how our solutions can benefit your next project? The UGS’s prestigious Crawford Award was presented to Janae Wallace, Trevor H. Schlossnagle, Kathryn Ladig, Paul C. Inkenbrandt, Hugh Hurlow, and Christian Hardwick in recognition of their research on groundwater conditions near Bryce Canyon National Park, culminating in the outstanding publication: Characterization of Groundwater in Johns and Emery Valleys, Garfield and Kane County, Utah, with Emphasis on the Groundwater Budget and Groundwater–Surface-water Interaction. This research leverages hydrogeology, hydrogeochemistry, geophysics, soil-water balance modeling, and water quality analyses to characterize the water resources of an environmentally sensitive area adjacent to Bryce Canyon National Park. Results quantify the groundwater and surface water resources, water quality, and surface water–groundwater interactions of the area, providing data essential for science-based water-resource management decisions. Significantly, the project results demonstrate the limited storage capacity of the principal valley-fill aquifer and the close temporal and spatial connections among climate, streams, and groundwater. #utahgeology #utahgroundwater #brycecanyon #crawfordaward
