At the Center for Justice Innovation, we know that healing begins by truly understanding each other. With roots in long-standing indigenous practices, restorative justice urges us to look beyond the default response of meeting harm with punishment. Instead, restorative justice allows people to foster real accountability and repair after harm, activating what our restorative practices team calls “our innate ability as human beings to really care for each other.” Your support helps connect the people we serve to care, vital resources, and a path to a better future. 🎁 Donate to support community healing today: https://lnkd.in/eburbhjZ

Please consider supporting this initiative and help unleash the inner voices of those who are non-speaking or minimally speaking. This population has been grossly under estimated and under served. They are BRILLIANT and deserve to be heard! Your donation = -Scholarships for local Nonspeaking & Minimally Speaking individuals to access alternative communication (i.e., spelling to communicate/letterboards) -Community building for Nonspeaking individuals and their families in NE Ohio -Public education on global Apraxia & helping to shift the inaccurate assumption that non-speaking means non-thinking https://lnkd.in/eztv7nZ5

Your donors are voting for your mission with their hearts --- The AFP says donors put giving where their emotion is . . . . . . especially after a major political event (like, say, Election Day?). If you're a non-profit organization trying to stand out after today's election, I hope you've kept some of your powder dry for tomorrow . . . and beyond. This flood of lower-dollar, first-time philanthropy has been dubbed "rage giving." So how are you reaching those new donors before the end of the year? My advice? Create a timely and relevant message -- a story! -- that offers people an outlet for making a real, tangible difference in the causes that matter most, perhaps in spaces where folks feel their values are not being heard.

Congratulations Dr. Stacie Waites on having her article titled "Teach a Man to Fish: The Use of Autonomous Aid in Eliciting Donations" published! Article Summary: Conventional wisdom says that if you give a person a fish you can feed them for a day, but if you teach them to fish you can feed them for a lifetime. However, most nonprofits tend to describe their work in a more immediate way (giving a fish) instead of how they can help aid recipients work toward autonomy (teaching them to fish). This research explores an alternative positioning strategy focused on the use of autonomous aid appeals, which promote the use of donated funds to facilitate the eventual self-sufficiency of those in need. Working with a regional non-profit we show that this singular change to the non-profit’s messaging increased donations by over 400%. This effect is further investigated in 6 studies, all suggesting the profound effect of autonomous aid messaging over immediate aid messaging in various donation contexts. How do you fit into your community? Do you use your gifts and talents to help better the lives of others? Do you donate as much as you spend in 1 week on coffee or eating out? We can either be the people who take a few seconds to stop when we see a piece of trash on the ground and throw it away, or we can choose to be the people who pretend the trash doesn't exist. That type of person typically believes that it is not their responsibility to pick up the trash. Imagine if we all thought that way................what a dumpsite our community would turn into! Instead, if you choose to stop and throw away the trash, you may inspire another, who inspires another, who inspires.......another! The next thing you know, because you stopped just that one time to throw away a piece of trash, your community has gained a dozen people who are inspired to actively care for the environment, making your community cleaner and stronger. This analogy is true for every part of your community. Don't ignore your community issues. Get involved and make a change.

If we want beautiful parks in our lives If we want museums in our lives If we want art in our lives If we want music in our lives If we want events in our lives If we want a better way of living As a sector, we are going to have to come together and create a new agreement. So many charities are victims of the Entitled People within their communities. Making those people wrong, shaming them, and punishing them is not the answer. It simply won't work. Rather, we need to begin a conversation for redefining what it means to live in community. The people have forgotten. We haven't, because fostering community happens to be our specialty! It's where our mastery lives. What's happening in our communities? We already know. There are people with a whole lot, and people with little to nothing - except now the gaps are glaring. Bigger than ever. It's driven community members to protect what they earn, what they spend, and where their time goes. They put a fence around their money and their time - to the point of refusing to serve without being paid for it. They abandon what they feel they cannot keep, dump what they no longer want, and take whatever they can. The thought of giving back has disappeared. The thought of serving is non-existent. The ugly truth is, the nonprofit sector understands every community's predicament because we've all lived it at one time or another. We know what it's like to squirrel away money. We know what it's like to not have enough. This is what our communities are now facing at an unprecedented level. They are currently attempting to solve their problems by isolating. The nonprofit sector knows that solving problems like this requires asking. Not isolating. Community members have long since forgotten how to be community members. It's very possible that you, as a nonprofit leader, have forgotten as well. I implore you to remember who you are, because you have a skill set and a commitment your community is longing for - whether they realize it or not. It takes a village, but it starts with one person. YOU.

This year, we’re doing something a little different. Instead of asking for donations, we’re focusing on gratitude. Join the Youth Shelter Program of Westchester (YSOW) for our GratiTuesday Anti-Giving Campaign, where it’s all about giving back in non-traditional ways. What is GratiTuesday? It’s a day to reflect, share, and spread gratitude within our community. Whether it’s volunteering, supporting someone in need, or simply expressing thanks, your actions can make a big difference. At YSOW, we’re shining a light on youth justice. YSOW is the only organization in New York State serving as an alternative to incarceration for young people ages 18-25 involved in the criminal legal system. Over the years, we’ve helped hundreds of young people through our residential and community outreach programs, ensuring they remain successful as they reintegrate back into their communities. Image Here’s how you can participate: ✅Create a Video: Record a 1-minute video sharing why you’re grateful for YSOW or the cause of youth justice, and post it on social media. Don’t forget to tag us @ysow4youth and use the hashtag #GratiTuesdayYSOW ✅Spread Awareness: Share YSOW’s mission and programs with your network. ✅Volunteer: Join us in our efforts to support young people through mentorship and community engagement. ✅Make a Contribution: If you feel inspired to make a financial contribution, please visit our website and hit the Donate button. Your support ensures that we can continue making a positive impact on the lives of young people. Together, we can build a stronger, more just community for all. With gratitude, Joanne Dunn Executive Director

Happy National Nonprofit Day! I want to shine a spotlight on our nonprofits and say "Thank You" for the work you do and the Hope you bring. Nonprofits are essential for our communities, providing services to improve people's lives. Some of the areas they impact include poverty, homelessness, food insecurity, healthcare, mental health, education, environment, human rights, and the arts. Nonprofits help give a voice to the voiceless. They also encourage people to become involved in their community. Here are some interesting facts about nonprofits. • For every 10 nonprofits in a community, murder rates fall 9%, violent crime decreases 6%, and property crime goes down 4% • There are about 1.8 million nonprofits in the U.S. • The nonprofit sector makes up 10% of the U.S. workforce, employing around 11.9 million people • This means it is the 3rd largest employment industry in the US (behind retail and manufacturing) • 25% of Americans volunteer with their time, talents, and energy • Nonprofits make up 5.6% of the U.S. GDP, accounting for $2.4 trillion in revenue for the U.S. economy We salute the amazing nonprofits we have! want to be a part? ▪︎ Volunteer with any of our wonderful nonprofits ▪︎ Donate items needed, like diapers, underwear, and snacks ▪︎ Give money, especially to groups like the United Way that ensure contributions get where they need to ▪︎ Advocate and raise awareness for the nonprofits ▪︎ And don't forget to say thank you for all they do

Open your heart and abundance to those in need. Donate to organizations in your community that support women and girls. Do your part to support women and girls in your community by making a donation. Whether you want to find a specific organization that empowers young girls in STEM, or a local women’s health clinic, there is definitely a need, and you can definitely help fill it. Any amount you can give is meaningful, and if you can, setting up a recurring donation can make a huge impact, all while saving you time in the long run. While we highly recommend finding a small and local grassroots organization to support in your area, here are a few other organizations you can fund during Women’s History Month: Malala Fund Girls Inc. She Should Run National Network of Abortion Funds Girls Who Code National Women’s Law Center Black Mamas Matter Alliance National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center

Do you believe in paying it forward? I do! Whether it’s helping a colleague or contributing to a cause, the act of giving enriches both the giver and the receiver. This week, I received an email from RDS Same Day Delivery, letting readers know about the upcoming UN week. And for those of you who are not in NYC, this means that all the streets and avenues of Manhattan will look like a parking lot moving at like 1 mile per hour!!! What an easy way to help other New Yorkers, a simple email! That emails tells a lot about Larry Zogby and the culture at RDS who does a lot of last mile delivery for charitable causes, something that I admire them for. Giving free tips are small gestures that make us stand out. Speaking of, I give a lot of free tips to coop owners and coop board members that reach out, or follow me. Have a question about your coop? DM me here. How are you giving back to your community or industry? Let me know in the comments! #community #giving #congestion
