You can tell a lot about a company and its culture by how they respond to various successes – whether brushing right past them or stopping long enough to celebrate. In a Harvard Business Review article (https://lnkd.in/gAZxMFse), the author reflects on how every organization or individual’s learning journey can be modeled as an S curve, and one is always somewhere on that curve.
When organizations reach a sweet spot of mastery, they’ve reached the top of the S curve. At this point of the process, there’s often a tendency to either try and stay in that sweet spot of mastery for an extended period (which can result in boredom or disengagement), or have an “on-to-the-next mindset,” moving quickly along to the next challenge, without pausing long enough to acknowledge and celebrate what was accomplished.
Celebration alone can be a milestone on the S curve - stopping long enough to catch your breath as a team, reflecting on how far you’ve come, and what it took to get there. This can result in increased employee engagement and alignment, and it can even develop a deeper understanding of where you’re hoping to go next as a team as you celebrate how and why you got to where you are.
At EXP, we have given this a lot of thought and have helped many clients build thoughtful strategies for making meaningful connections among their teams. Celebrating these wins and sharing these successes. (And Howard’s right, it is best when it’s shared.)
Most recently, we helped a team of 450 folks gathered from all over the world, to celebrate and honor the successes of their team, and motivate them for future success. The energy in the room was electric, with motivating speeches, award ceremonies, and parties where their people could let loose and authentically connect.
Book a brainstorm session with our Senior Experience Designer Mallory, and we can help develop a roadmap for setting celebratory milestones for your team. https://lnkd.in/gSPsqc6u ⭐️
