🇪🇺 𝐄𝐔 𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 | Following the 2024 elections of the European Parliament, our Secretariat issued the following comment on the election’s preliminary results. “With more than 370 million citizens called to the polls in 27 different countries, these elections, which respect the different voting traditions of the Member States, have been a great exercise in democracy. The preliminary results show that a pro-European majority is maintained in the EU Parliament. The majority of those who voted expressed support for the European project and a strong desire for more Europe. This is good news and one of the key points the bishops of COMECE emphasised in the months prior to the elections. The turnout for these elections is around 50%. While this is in line with previous EU elections, it is still not enough, indicating a persistent disinterest and lack of commitment among EU citizens. A low turnout, combined with the strong increase in nationalistic and Eurosceptic parties, especially in the founding countries of the European Union, manifests a strong dissatisfaction with the performance of the EU. The results of these elections urge all of us, especially the newly elected MEPs and the future Commissioners, to work to reduce the perceived gaping between the European Union and its citizens and to give adequate answers to their real concerns.” More info: https://t.ly/e0Tq6 Photo: EP #EUelections #elezioniUE #europe #europa #europeanparliament #parlamentoUE #parlamentoeuropeo #EU #UE #ÉlectionsEuropéennes

The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) will hold elections for members of the Bureau on the 25th March 2024. The elections will fill the positions of President, First Vice President, and Fourth Vice President of the Bureau, which fell vacant following elections and unconstitutional changes of government in some of the African Union Member States. The elections will take place as part of the agenda of the PAP Extraordinary Session scheduled from the 20th to 27th of March 2024, at the Parliament's Headquarters in Midrand, South Africa. The convening of Extraordinary Session of the PAP is an outcome of the Executive Council decisions of the African Union Summit held in February 2024. The ministerial session, in deliberating the worrying situation at the Pan-African Parliament, called for the urgent convening of the Extraordinary session to fill the vacant positions. Hon. Lucia Dos Passos, Acting President of the PAP, notes that the Extraordinary Session will signal the full resumption of Parliamentary activities and set the PAP on the process of fully contributing to the promotion of policies and programs of the AU, including the theme of the year 2024, in line with the Parliament's mandate. PAP is the legislative arm of the African Union. #panafricanparliament #africanunion #africa #politics #elections2024

2024 looks set to be the busiest election year across the world, with almost half of the world’s citizens living in countries holding executive or legislative elections this year. The picture below visualizes collated 2024 global elections data from the 2024 Global Forecast Series, while the respective population sizes are taken from Worldometer as of January 2024. Thanks to global media coverage, most people are well aware of the much discussed and anticipated U.S. presidential and legislative elections to be held on November 5th, especially due to ongoing legal controversy with and yet rising political revanche prospects for Donald Trump. Notwithstanding the oversized attention paid by most global news channels for the tumultuous dynamic of the current Presidential and legislative campaigns in States, it should be noted that governments of other biggest nations, namely India and the combined electorate of the European Union, are also slated for their own elections in 2024. In Asia, over 200 million of Indonesian voters have already cast their ballots the last month to elect both executive and legislative power branches. Among the post-Soviet countries expected to hold elections in 2024 either to elect their top executive or legislatures, are Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Belarus, and Uzbekistan: #elections2024 #world #uselections #globalelections #electoralprocess https://lnkd.in/er-UXGjm

The countdown has begun. In less than a month, from June 6 to 9, elections to the European Parliament will be held in all EU countries. France will vote on June 9. The country will fill a record number of seats in the next EU parliament: 81 out of a total of 720, twice the number of seats it holds currently, and never before these elections have weighed so much in the political life in the European Union in general and in France in particlar. There are several reasons for this. The first is common for many other European countries, where right-wing populists are gaining momentum, and France is no exception. https://lnkd.in/dZH4XpRU
