Happy 4th of July! In honor of the holiday, I want to talk about freedom- job freedom. Something very American and powerful is that we are employees at will. This is usually talked about in favor of the employer, however, I want to flip it around for a second. So many people are in toxic job environments right now and have crippling anxiety about leaving the workplace. Sure, two weeks is standard to give in terms of leaving a job, but it's not required. It's not THE LAW. You have the power to leave. When you want. How you want. You are not being forced to stay against your will. Congratulations on your accomplishment while you did something else, but... - don't look down on cleaning jobs. - don't look down on security jobs. - don't look down on service station jobs. - don't look down on agricultural and domestic jobs. - don't look down on hospitality jobs. It's okay to strive for something else, but don't diminish the worth of a job because of your own successes, opportunities, and ambitions. We're a long way from #decentwork for all, including basic protections like job security, equality, development, and just and equitable remuneration. But there is dignity to be found in the jobs we hold while we do them well. All of them.

🌴 Miami Beach is taking a stand against the typical wild spring break. The city's introducing tough rules: $100 parking for nonresidents, curfews, and more police. They even made a video saying, "Come back when you've grown up." This change is because of increasing violence, with two fatal shootings last spring break. But, not everyone's on board. Some say these rules unfairly target Black visitors and hurt businesses during a key season. Despite the crackdown, travel predictions are still high. With 126.8 million journeys last year (up by 9%) we are looking to the future. The railway has plenty of opportunities for everyone. If you are looking for a new challenge just ask yourself, Can you move people? We want to hire people who can make a difference to our customers. We want to encourage people to think about the railway differently. Our research showed that just 41% of 18-24 year olds said they would be fairly or very likely to work in rail. For women, this figure was just 25%. Clearly Southeastern and the industry has a lot of work to do. If you join you’ll have more than a job – we’ll give you extensive training to do your role well. Along with our full-on support this could be the start of a long career. You may be a trailblazer, a pioneer or simply the person who makes the difference to someone’s day. You’ll see more of this campaign over the next 8 weeks and we will then advertise more roles as they are available. There will be Station roles, Train Conductor and Onboard Manager roles, Enforcement and Protection roles, and Engineering roles. The Railway also offers careers in finance, marketing, data insights, AI, HR, project management, communications and pretty much any career you can think of. Of course, we have train drivers too. We’re advertising this month for Station roles, Drivers, Conductors, On Board Managers and Railway Enforcement Officers at all our depots. Some will have vacancies sooner rather than later. Personal thought: Green flag is by giving applicants feedbacks on what they can do better. As a applicant, we invest our time to do due diligence about the company and the role we applied, however, the responses that most of us got is we have decided to move on to other candidates. A reason of why moving on to other candidates or what we can do better will be the green flag.
Green flags in a job posting: ✅ salary transparency ✅ realistic qualifications & responsibilities ✅ opportunities for growth ✅ vacation time (pto) ✅ positive workplace culture ✅ optional: dog friendly office

The lackluster results were due to poor snow conditions in North America and Australia, the statement said. Snowfall at Vail’s Western U.S. resorts, which includes its marquee Colorado properties, was down 28 percent. Colorado Public Radio Vail Resorts Sarah Mulholland informative reporting and content. Thank you! 28% decline an attention grabber for sure. Yet not all that surprising given the ongoing changes in the climate and the almost daily news (science, data, government, military) reports on the impacts of climate change. Plus, the ongoing strain being put on the #coloradoriverbasin that relies heavily on snowfall, snowpack and snowmelt. The job cuts are very unfortunate for sure and highlights the reach of climate change and #mothernature. Yes, a lot of effort being put into addressing and solving the impacts of climate change but more education required to help people realize more must be done and must be done now. Postive news is there are a number of cutting edge water technology companies already hard at work doing their part but they need more support (updated regulations, incentives, rebates , political leadership and grassroots momentum) to drive adoption and scale.
