So I got to my armed security post around 12:45, which is 15 minutes early. As I was driving I got the results back from this morning's test for a civilian, non-sworn/commissioned position with LVMPD. I failed. By TWO points. A 68/70. And that was just THRESHOLD to pass - not even being competitive and whatnot, we were told only the top scorers would move on, so those 2 points probably wouldn't have cut it regardless. But honestly? I'm ok with that. After listening to the "day in the life" presentation before the actual written exam, I was already re-thinking it and going "hrmmmm, maybe this isn't for me" Lesson here is to always keep your options open, but never be afraid of rejection. I'm at least proud my resume (thank you Sam Struan, once again!) is at least up to snuff to be NOTICED by the most major department in Clark County. I at LEAST passed the resume screening and was one of 130 people allowed to move forward to have sat at LVMPD-MLK HQ today to even TAKE that test. The position was not for me, I know that now. I had thought it as the LVMPD Sergeant in Charge of Day Shift gave his little presentation this AM, me receiving "the news" - it only solidifies my thought process of "hey Mike rethink this..." This was for Fusion Watch Specialist by the way, working out of the Clark County Counterterrorism Fusion Center. The specific role isn't for me I found out before actually picking up the pencil to take the written. If you've ever watched Blue Bloods, I thought this was gonna be like a CompStat type role, compiling data to find trends and perform admin work for Clark County's Real-Time Fusion CT Center (say inputting armed travel for officers into NLETS for TSA and what have you, that type of admin). THAT'S the type of work I would LOVE to get into. If I ever get to dip my toes back into the law enforcement world, I want to help on the data side of things. That's more me nowadays - I'm an Ops Room guy, I want to help the bigger picture. Onward to better things after this denial! I have my own business to start and attend to after all! ;)

New from Security Management Magazine: "Adjust Your Expectations: Tough Truths About Cross-Sector Career Transfers" The private and corporate security field can feel like a natural fit for many veterans and former law enforcement personnel, since their existing crisis management, security, and investigative skills are highly transferrable. But while there are many commonalities between public and private security, the transition can still be challenging. https://brnw.ch/21wMjpx #security #securityprofession #securitymanagement

Crime Scene Investigator vs. Forensic Science Technician: What's the Difference? Both roles play crucial parts in criminal investigations, but there are key distinctions. - Crime Scene Investigators are the first responders at crime scenes. They meticulously document and collect evidence, preserving it for analysis. They're often on-call and work irregular hours. - Forensic Science Technicians work primarily in laboratories, analyzing the evidence collected at crime scenes. They use specialized techniques to examine fingerprints, DNA, ballistics, and other types of evidence. Which role interests you?
