This Veterans Day, we proudly salute those who have served our country. At Cayuga Health, we’re celebrating by showcasing photos of our veteran staff members and their loved ones who have served throughout November in both hospital lobbies. Join us in recognizing their dedication and service. Thank you to all veterans for your courage and sacrifice.

Happy Veterans’ Day! I have to admit, I’ve been meaning to make this post for years. My time in service, for those that know me, was full of tremendous highs and devastating lows. When I left the service, Lord knows, I was DONE! But as time goes on, I often find myself reflecting upon my service and I find much pride when taking inventory of the many lessons learned during my time in service to my country. Here are a few that I feel are as relevant today as ever. 1. Chill out, it’s not that serious! Nothing is life or death… unless it’s life or death. 2. You’re way stronger than you believe you are. There’s nothing you can’t withstand for a Year; If not a year, a Month; If not a month, a Week; If not a week, a Day; If not a day, an Hour… Minute… Second 3. All differences can be overcome when working towards a shared goal. Sounds cliché, but I’ve seen it! 4. Control what is in your power to control. The rest is just noise! 5. Surround yourself with as many people as you can… Who are NOT like you! There’s strength in diversity – we fill each other’s gaps! This is clearly an abridged list. The lessons learned while serving in the US Army are too vast to include here. Some lessons, I’m sill only just beginning to understand. All in all, though, I’m better for having served. I’m better for the people I’ve met, the things I’ve seen, and places I’ve been. Thank you to all my fellow Veterans! Today is your day, Enjoy it!

Non-Profit Executive / Community Builder / Advisor / Challenge Solver / Veteran & Military Spouse Advocate / Marine Corps Veteran
Veterans have a special bond with one another. It is not something that many non-veterans can understand. We did not do what we did for glory or fame, but because there was a calling in our soul that led us down the path of service. No matter how long we served or where we served, we can find a connection with each other. It is not about being thanked for our service or the freebies that are offered today or other days. When we walk into a room, we have this natural ability to connect with one another even if we served decades a part. Listen to the stories when we open up to one another and you will see commonality. There is comfort in talking about the things that we do not tell anyone else. To all my fellow Veterans out there, I wish you the best Veterans Day and rest of your year. We are bonded for life and that is a special thing. #VeteransDay #Veterans #Veteran #ALifeOfService #VeteranStories #BruceTalk

Hey guys! Getting close to the end of the year, and whew--it's been QUITE a year. We will have done more morale-boosting visits to Veterans facilities this year than we have ever done before! We will have visited our Nation's Heroes at 45 difference VA Hospitals, Veterans Homes, and military bases across the Country! Doing logistics for all these visits was a little crazy to say the least, but we made it happen! Our Ambassadors brought SO many smiles and gifts of appreciation to incredible Americans who have stepped up to serve! A huge shout out to our Pin-Ups For Vets Ambassadors for making this happen! We love bringing joy to our Veterans across America. We had a big milestone this year, hitting our 49th state! The goal was always to boost morale for Veterans across America! And guess what? We only have Alaska left! If there are any sponsors out there who would like to help us with our Alaska visit, please let me know, so that we can complete our tour! In the meantime, if you would like to order a Pin-Ups For Vets calendar for us to deliver to a hospitalized Veteran, please visit pinupsforvets.com 💓 This is where we did morale-boosting visits to in 2024: Spring City Veterans Home, Pennsylvania visit Lancaster Veterans Home, CA visit Bay Pines VA Hospital, Florida visit Milwaukee VA Hospital, Wisconsin visit Kansas City VA Hospital Missouri visit Ft. Military Holidays There are three distinct holidays for honoring military personnel and all three are different in who they honor. Some people get confused, so let’s review them and keep it simple: Armed Forces Day 3rd Saturday in May Honors all military personnel now serving Memorial Day Last Monday in May Honors all military personnel who died while serving this nation Veterans Day November 11th Honors those who have served in the Armed Forces Many Americans and businesses try to piggy-back other things onto these holidays. For example, on Memorial Day you’ll find people coming up to veterans and saying, “Thanks for your service.” Please remember, Memorial Day isn’t about anybody’s service. Veterans cringe when they hear this as most vets have lost somebody in combat or training and that phrase, although said innocently and sincerely, is cringeworthy to most vets. It’s not about a mattress sale. It’s not about honoring first responders. It’s not about the first day of summer. Or barbecue. It’s not about anything except honoring those men and women - and the families - who made the ultimate sacrifice for this great nation! That’s it. Don’t add anything else to it. Its simple, but it’s also a somber event and there’s nothing happy about it, so please refrain from saying “Happy Memorial Day.” All three of these events are just single days, not months. So let’s give them the undivided attention each day deserves and focus on what exactly the day is set aside for…spend time with your families and share the meaning of the day with the younger members. Explain what the day is all about. There are many ways to celebrate and/or honor these folks: Visit a military cemetery on Memorial Day, a veterans home on Veterans Day, or send a care package to deployed troops on Armed Forces Day. Our organization is amazing when it comes to honoring these holidays. From placing flags on graves to setting up Missing Man tables to remember the POW-MIA personnel, we enjoy wide support! Many companies just use these days as off-days. Please share these three days with your family and friends! National Cemetery Andersonville, GA

From Brother Roo…🙏🏼😔🫡🫡🫡🫡🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🫵 We veterans do take this very seriously: Here's some ground rules for this weekend: 1. Don't wish me a Happy Memorial Day! There is nothing happy about brave men and women dying. 2. It's not a holiday, it's a remembrance. 3. If you want to know the true meaning, visit Arlington or your local VA or local Veterans Cemetery. 4. Don't talk to me how great any one political power is. Talk to me about Eugene Ashley, Brian Bucher, Nate Chapman, John Levitow, Jon Mills, Mitch Nelson, Chris Kyle, Neil Roberts, John Chapman, Robert Miller and countless other of our Special Forces heroes too numerous to name who made the ultimate sacrifice. Attend a Bell Ceremony, Roll Call or any other type and shed some tears. 5. Don't tell me I don't know what I am talking about, I have carried the burden all too many times for Warriors who now stand their post with God. 6. Remember the Fallen for all the Good they did while they were here. 7. Reach out and let a Vet know you're there, we're losing too many in "peace". One more thing, as a Veteran, when you come together, when you have that BBQ, before you eat, circle up and say a prayer. Raise a glass to your Brothers and Sisters that are gone. Then you don't say a word. After that, eat and enjoy each others company.
