Catherine played a crucial role in integrating nursing operations after Virtua’s 2019 acquisition of Lourdes Health System. A Virtua colleague for two decades, she was instrumental in the organization's pandemic response, and recently helped secure Magnet re-designation for three Virtua hospitals, among other achievements. In the current issue of Nursing Outlook, a panel paper from the 2022 Emory Business Case for Nursing Summit focuses on resilience in nursing by addressing the importance of organizational culture in nursing retention, the role of leadership in reducing nurse turnover, and strategies for how to build resilience systems that counteract or eliminate sources of moral distress. These strategies (developed using a strong organizational framework) include “hear me, protect me, prepare me, support me, and care for me": "Hear me" refers to valuing and acting on voices from the frontlines; "protect me" refers to building resilience safeguards into the healthcare environment; "prepare me" refers to ensuring nurses have the training and resources necessary to provide safe and competent care; "support me" means recognizing the effort clinicians contribute may take a toll on their personal lives and families; and "care for me" refers to an organization's commitment to reciprocate when a clinician needs help.
