I made this about two years back, so I thought I'd share it again as a reminder that our expectation of a funnel is not in line with the reality of a funnel. With that being said though, we work with what we have. That is the essence of data analysis. You work with what you have. Please stop making excuses about the quality of your data. No one has great data.
I really like how you've accounted for people dropping out the funnel. Really highlights the evolving nature of consumers leading the interactions and having the option to end ties whenever they wish.
This is actually a superb visual! I hated how the"experts" were simplifying it whereas the reality is much more complex.
Models are like maps - they are useful *because* they are simplified. A 1:1 scale map would be impossible to use.
You've got a bit of Dali in you, Bhav!
Ah yes, the classic marketing 'pretzel' that we try to straighten and call it a funnel 😅
A funnel is a simple model that tries to model reality, and in some places, it does it well (checkout, the last mile of something), and in other places, it does not.
This reminds me so much of the initial pirate metrics funnel picture by Dave McClure!
Iconic.
Love it. It's as arty as accurate!
