If the point of raising money is to buy stuff, why don't we just skip the fundraising, and ask for the stuff we need? Think about how much less money you would have to raise if you were sharing a resource rather than needing to own it. Or if someone just gave you the stuff you need, with no strings attached. 🔆 Vehicles owned by an after school program, that could be shared with a senior center who needs a van in the mornings. 🔆 Back office functions like bookkeeping and human resources and volunteer coordination. Or extra storage space. That's the stuff we really need. Unlike money, which is scarce by definition, those real resources are abundant and easy to share. That's why Creating the Future focuses so much on Collective Enoughness - the economic theory that together we have everything we need. This seems so simple, because it is. We included stories of Collective Enoughenss in our latest newsletter, as well as tips for how to approach folks for those itesms. You'll find that newsletter here: https://lnkd.in/ggGUMPMy Bottom line, it is often much easier for community members to share the stuff they have or the work they are already doing (like those back office functions or providing product) than it is for them to find money in their tight budgets to donate. And what a waste of time for us to ask for money, when what we really need is "stuff." I hope the newsletter sparks your thinking. And I'd love to hear stories of things you are already sharing! #fundraising #donorrelations #communtycentricfundraising #collectiveenoughness #nonprofits #nonprofitmanagement #funddevelopment #philanthropy

Great to hear the Productivity Commissioners from the Philanthropy Inquiry discussing the volunteering recommendations at their recent webinar. For those of you who missed out, the recording is now available. Volunteering (the giving of time) features strongly in the Final Report of the Productivity Commission's inquiry into Philanthropy, including: • Recommendation 7.7 proposes new government policies and programs being required to explicitly consider the effect on volunteering participation. • Recommendation 9.2 would require listed companies to publicly report on donations (including volunteering), and about 6,000 additional volunteer-run charities would have easier access to DGR status under the Commission’s proposed reforms. • The report also recognises the importance of the National Strategy for Volunteering in achieving a positive future for volunteering in Australia.

As we approach the end of the year and step into the season of giving, it’s the perfect time to pause, recommit, and carry forward the lessons that fuel our mission of systems change. This past week, I had the privilege of attending New Profit The Well conference in Baltimore, hosted by our anchor philanthropic partner, New Profit. It was a powerful gathering of thought leaders and changemakers exploring what it means to build community, purpose, and transformation. Tulaine M. Shawn Dove Shruti Sehra Eliza Greenberg Delanoe Matthew Johnson Over the next few days, I’ll be sharing reflections from the conference—key ideas that have stayed with me and continue to shape the work we’re doing at Kingmakers of Oakland. One that resonates deeply is this: Community is medicine. It’s through connections rooted in love, purpose, and care that we heal, energize, and sustain ourselves and our work. But this kind of community doesn’t just happen—it takes commitment and intention. While the challenges are real, it’s our shared strength and belief in each other that provide the foundation to keep going. As we close out the year, I invite each of us to reflect: How can we better nurture our relationships to create deeper, more lasting impact? Let’s lean in and move forward—together.
