The Living Blue Apparel team is excited to introduce Blue Cancer Connect as our newest resource.
This past year, two family members of our Living Blue Apparel team were diagnosed with cancer. It is a diagnosis no one wants to get. Cancer is also a fight that no one should have to face alone. Officers know what it means to be part of a tribe. Unfortunately, some experience a loss of support when no longer able to serve in the same capacity due to their diagnosis. A cancer diagnosis often creates a financial burden on both the officer and their family and greatly affects the mental health of all involved.
The mission of Blue Cancer Connect is to show empathy, provide encouragement, and offer support following a life-altering diagnosis of cancer. They do this by bringing education, awareness, and opportunities for early detection. Through the relationships they have established with leading cancer hospitals, they offer direction for treatment options and second opinions. Blue Cancer Connect also offers officer-to-officer peer support and financial assistance to officers and their families in need.
After the loss of her husband, Mitch Speed, in 2018, Vickie Speed, CEO and founder of Blue Cancer Connect, was determined to help officers and their families better navigate their cancer journeys. Mitch, who was a Los Angeles County Sheriff, lives on in the countless lives improved because of the work Blue Cancer Connect is doing.
