This one cuts deep. No military spouse truly knows what it means to sign on to military life. You can’t know until you feel the baseline daily uncertainty of waiting for your entire life to change without warning. The ever-present tightness in your throat when your spouse is deployed. The relief of finding a genuine friend. Feeling seen and heard for the first time in a long time. The exhaustion in endless Google searches for accessible houses, doctors, dentists, childcare, jobs, mechanics in place after place after place. The grief of finding a priceless family heirloom cracked in a moving box—again. Tiny things that add up. Things you can push through, overlook, justify. That is, until you can’t. But it’s hard to talk about these things openly for layered reasons. This is a courageous and important project. People talk ABOUT mil spouses a lot. But often it’s them AS spouses. Through their relationship to their significant other’s job. They are in the shadows. This project takes a closer look at mil spouses not just as spouses but as people in their own right. Their own perspectives on their own goals, experiences and hopes. Military spouses are often treated as less important in the military community because they don’t wear a uniform. But while the servicemember is away and spouses pack the house for the PCS, organize the kids and help make ends meet at their job, it’s clear they truly help to keep the mission going. The families we support, along with our staff, volunteers, and donors, are what collectively drives everything we do as a Foundation. Working together and synchronized on the same mission, we can continue to make and outsized impact the Special Operations Forces (SOF) community. Through our own personal experience as special operators, family members, and supporters, we recognize that all of our people (from the SOF community we support and within our organization) need three key elements within their lives – Mission, Purpose, and Focus.

We are excited to kick off Freetrail's 3rd annual Memorial Day Fundraiser supporting Wounded Warrior Project. To date the FT community has helped raise over $7,000 and this year we are hoping to go bigger. We encourage any brand in the trail/running/outdoor space who will be holding a Memorial Day Sale to consider a donation to this effort. Memorial Day of course was originally a moment to honor those who have served their country and did not make it home. Not the unofficial kick off to summer. Or 40% off anything. This isn't meant to shame a company holding a sale. We get it. But please condisder a donation out of your profits. As a reminder this was originally born out our friend Ari Sonnenburg's annual tribute to his friends that he served with in the US Army. This year his effort is a big one. A 75 hour vision quest through the Netherlands to see how far he can go. Every day, 58 injured veterans and their families sign up to receive critical services and support offered by WWP. Thanks to the generosity of people like you, warriors and their families will never pay a penny for these life-changing programs. How can you participate? Oh how many ways! 1. Donate if you are able to. 2. Get your employer to match the donation if that's a perk that they offer. 3. Spread the word on social media with your friends and family (maybe a repost here?) 4. If you are connected to a brand in the outdoor world encourage a donation if they will be offering Memorial Day Sales. The TowerCares Foundation has granted over $3 million to help military families, Veterans, and children in need.
