🎓The Erasmus Mundus Master Programme DENSYS 2.0 on decentralised smart energy systems is open for applications! 🤝This pan-European master’s degree is jointly coordinated by four EERA members, namely KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Universite de Lorraine (UL), Politecnico di Torino (PoliTo), and Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). ⚡Decentralised smart energy systems play an increasingly vital role in supporting the transition to a low-carbon future. 📖In the first year of the degree, students will enrol at UL in France, where they will gain a strong foundation in decentralised energy systems along with insights into the humanities field. This will be followed by the opportunity to 💡specialise in either decentralised energy integration at KTH in Sweden, energy storage at PoliTo in Italy, or thermal engineering at UPC in Spain. ✅The curriculum will be completed upon pursuing a master thesis or an internship during the final semester. ⌛Applications close on 27 January at noon (CET). ✍️Learn more and apply here: https://lnkd.in/egRbj9x4

Our latest research on smart charging and energy flexibility is now available as a pre-print!   With the rise in electric vehicle adoption, local power grids are facing increasing strain, raising crucial questions about optimizing grid operations. How can we ensure that our energy system remain both efficient and resilient in the face of growing demand? To address these challenges, our colleagues Linda Punt and Yashar Ghiassi-Farrokhfal, in collaboration with Gar Goei Loke (Durham University Business School), have explored on the trade-offs between flexibility and uncertainty in smart charging systems.   Their paper, titled "Operationalizing Smart Charging: A Robust Optimization Interpretation of Flexibility vs. Uncertainty," offers valuable insights into the future of energy management and the strategies needed to ensure that our energy systems remain both efficient and resilient.   Key highlights of the research include: 1. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗿𝗼𝗯𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 that supports decision-making for implementing various smart charging strategies with the complexity of uncertain arrivals and departures 2. The Second StoRIES Summer School 2024 entitled "Hybrid energy storage and application-oriented solutions in EU" will be held in #Rome in Italy (ROAD Via Ostiense, 72, 00154 Roma T) between 3 June and 6 June 2024.   The main objective of the Summer School is not only to provide a general overview of a combination of various #energy storage #technologies (#electrochemical, #chemical, thermal, electrical and mechanical energy storage), but to suggest innovative hybrid solutions at different levels (from industrial-, to grid-, microgrid-, and domestic-scale applications) for early-career researchers (MSc, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers within 2 years after PhD). Well-recognized experts will share insights on the issues related to hybrid energy storage applications.   Registration includes access to all summer school sessions, coffee breaks, lunch and dinner free of charge as part of the program.
