Studies show that adults with hearing or vision loss face a heightened risk of cardiovascular disease, including stroke and heart attack. Decreased physical activity, social isolation, and mental health factors linked to sensory impairments can all play a role in increasing this risk. Regular cardiovascular screenings, along with support for vision and hearing health, could be key steps toward lowering these risks. We have all heard that regular physical activity is good for your health, but did you know that it's even more impactful for those with depression and other stress-related conditions? New research indicates that physical activity actually lowers cardiovascular disease risk in part by reducing stress-related signaling in the brain. In the study, which was led by investigators at Massachusetts General Hospital, including Ahmed Tawakol, MD, people with stress-related conditions such as depression experienced the most cardiovascular benefits from physical activity. Check out our research in a capsule video below for more information, or visit our website here: https://lnkd.in/g7kaSruA #cvd #depression #exercise

Important information! Depression is associated with an increased risk of physical illness. Its prevalence has been found to be markedly higher in patients with chronic medical conditions such as heart diseases, diabetes, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, etc. Taking care of our mental health has been shown to promote our physical health, and vice versa. Given this bidirectional relationship, it is crucial to take care of both our mental and physical health to ensure a reduction in the risk of disability from depression. #terezhealth #mentalhealthadvocate
