Last week, nearly 20 Raftelis leaders gathered in Charlotte for two impactful, half-day strategic planning sessions that were facilitated by one of our own strategic planning pros, Nancy Hetrick. A year ago, we completed a comprehensive update to our strategic plan through 2027, and this year, we focused on identifying actionable items for 2025 to align with our long-term goals. Those items are centered around three core areas: people, process, and performance. This article caught my attention over the weekend and left me reflecting on the evolving role of GCs—a topic I find hugely fascinating. Thank you to Terra Potter for this thought-provoking piece. Sharing it here to spark a conversation and hear your thoughts on Terra’s perspective.The article highlights the challenges GCs face in maintaining their place at the executive table, with reporting lines increasingly shifting away from the CEO. Are these trends a sign that the role of the GC is being redefined, or do they reflect broader changes in corporate leadership dynamics? Do GCs even want roles on boards? I also came across some interesting studies showing that while 28% of GCs currently sit on company boards, their representation remains modest. For example, the U.S. Spencer Stuart Board Index reports that of the 413 new board members hired by S&P 500 companies, only 10 had legal backgrounds. It's fascinating how much a company's early stages depend on the personality and decisions of its Founder. When Nova Posta's Founders resumed leadership on February 26, 2022, with the company earning only 2% of pre-war revenue, their singular focus was survival. I find myself in a similar situation now. Just a few weeks ago, our revenue and order numbers were healthy. Today, the landscape has shifted, and I've had to step in more actively. So, what are my decisions? 1) Stepping in as CMO: I'm prioritizing my time on a few key metrics: - Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) - Return on Advertising Spend (ROAS) - Generating sales to surpass our breakeven point I actually enjoy it. 2) Preserving the Production Team: At all costs, it's crucial to maintain our production team, as they are currently the cornerstone of our business. Unfortunately, this has meant letting some people go, specifically our agency, not the production team. 3) Seeking Potential Financing: I'm exploring various financing options, including grants and reaching out to key clients with offers. What would you do if you were in my position?
