“HR is still a misunderstood function in terms of the value and power it can bring to a firm’s CEO and leadership,” - Paige Ross, global head of human resources at Blackstone. Paige's comments really resonate with me especially this .." It’s incumbent upon HR leaders to have the courage to show what we can do, the ability to learn what we don't know and to always think like a businessperson. The best HR leaders are businesspeople first, with an expertise in HR.” Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eSDFg_a9

Episode 5 of the Managing Humans Podcast is out and it is HOT! We talk about coffee, leadership styles and getting recruited by a company via a blind cold call to a Walmart. It was a fun conversation but I learned a lot and changed my mind on a couple things. Christopher Flett is good, real good! Give it a listen. https://lnkd.in/gkja7M7g
Christopher Flett is my guest this week! He is a life long leader and a true retailer. His resume looks like a history of the American retail sector. He started in grocery, went through the Walmart management training program, managed a region for Blockbuster Video, and is now the Director of Operations & Integrations at Starbucks Coffee Company. We talk about leadership styles and how managers have to keep learning, so we can keep connected to our teams. It was a great conversation and I know everyone is going to be able to take something valuable away from the show. https://lnkd.in/g7SbX5KK

Who saw the incredible 7-4 Chicago Blackhawks win over the Arizona Coyotes last night?! It was a great game and the barn was electric! Want to know someone else who brings energy, passion, focus and discipline to her team? RailwayAge Magazine’s February 2024 cover and “Top 25 Under 40 Fast Tracker” recipient, Cinthya Guillén of CPKC. Cinthya’s story of working hard, grit and determination is not unique to railroaders. What is different is her ability to build a culture of Ownership on her team; and one known for Trust + Performance. Since meeting her over two years ago, I’ve watched her develop a keen sense of awareness while providing clarity, building alignment and driving momentum on her team. She knows that the leader’s role is to create the right environment so her people succeed. She knows inspiring, equipping and reinforcing the right behaviours leads to better results and a more engaged workforce; and she demonstrates her committment to a speak up culture by providing feedback productively & receiving feedback positively… hmmmm maybe the Blackhawks did all those things last night, too? ;) Felicidades Cinthya!! #leadership #leadershipdevelopment #awareness #awarenessmatters #clarity #claritymatters #alignment #alignmentmatters #momentum #momentummatters #trust #performance #productivity #safety #safetyculture #safetyfirst #service #collaboration #growth #operations #operationalexcellence #rail #railway #transportation
