When you picture an engineer, your first thought may not be of a woman. That's why today, in celebration of International Women in Engineering Day, we recognize women engineers across the world. Our very own Head of Sustainability, Eryn Thomas Devola, began her career as an engineer. Throughout her career, she has used those skills to foster conversation and drive change in how our business impacts the environment. I had an awesome experience at the #futurewomeninkiewitsummit ! Some of my key takeaways were: 1. Kiewit invests in their employees, which has established impressive loyalty within the company. 2. Look for and take advantage of the ditched tasks. Become an expert where no one else is. 3. Be prepared. Challenge yourself. Strive for excellence! 4. Embrace authenticity. Be confident! 5. Find a mentor. Envision who you want to be, and find mentors that fit the vision. 6. Utilize your resources and your team. Build relationships and ask questions. 7. You, not others, are responsible for your own happiness. Find outlets. 8. Visualization is key in communication. 9. Women bring valuable and diverse strengths to the table in the construction industry. 10. The construction industry is one to be proud of with tangible and fulfilling accomplishments! In addition, I was able to network with many young women on similar tracks to myself, as well as leaders in the company. Thank you Kiewit for the opportunity!

How can we encourage more women to excel in engineering?   In France, only 24% of engineers are women, and 30% of engineering students are women, a percentage that has stagnated over the last 10 years. 🇫🇷💡 These statistics raise questions about the inclusion and progress of the sector.   During our FOCUS ON Women Engineers webinar on Friday 8 March, our experts, Mélanie - HR Director, MICHELLE - DQRSE, Fatima - Consultant, Alice - Manager Coach and FATIMA - Women Engineers Representative shared their visions and the actions implemented by Abylsen.   🤝 Partnership with Femmes Ingénieures 🤝 Giving a voice to women employees, promoting them and highlighting their career paths 🤝 Involvement in charitable actions in favour of women: Pink October, elles bougent, challenge 39-19, etc. 🤝 Deploying an inclusive HR strategy   Every day, through our work and our convictions, we do our utmost to ensure that the place of women in engineering is a matter of course. For them, for us, for everyone.

This year, we’re celebrating the 11th annual International Women in Engineering Day. As we reflect on the progress made, it’s important to remember there is  plenty of work to do to achieve equity in engineering. As of this year, women and non-binary people make up only about 16–21% of the engineering workforce. We sat down with two of our own engineers at WP Engine, Teresa Gobble and Ciprianna Engel, to discuss the state of women in engineering as well as their own career journeys. Working in science and engineering, you often hear that we stand on the shoulders of giants. This is always true, but is especially important to highlight as we move into Women’s History Month. Throughout history, women scientists and engineers have faced numerous challenges, including gender bias and systemic barriers. Despite these obstacles, their resilience, innovation, and groundbreaking achievements have paved the way for the advancements we witness today. This Women's History Month, let's remember the giants of the past and celebrate the living trailblazers who continue to shape the landscape of science and engineering. From Marie Curie, who made groundbreaking discoveries in radioactivity, to Rosalind Franklin, whose work was integral to the understanding of DNA structure, women have played pivotal roles in shaping our understanding of the world. Today, women continue to break barriers in various scientific and engineering disciplines, contributing to groundbreaking research, and technological advancements, and fostering diversity in these fields. As we celebrate Women's History Month, let's commit to amplifying women's voices in science and engineering, recognizing their achievements, and creating an inclusive environment that encourages future generations of women to pursue careers in STEM. By doing so, we not only honor the giants of the past but also empower the giants of the future who will continue to inspire innovation and progress for generations to come.
