It’s exciting to see Edmonton being recognized as one of Canada's best affordable cities by Maclean's magazine. Did you know that in 2022 alone, we welcomed more than 45,000 new residents to our city? Affordability is a key part of what makes Edmonton youthful, vibrant and inclusive. The reality is that affordable, suitable, and adequate housing remains out of reach for many Edmontonians. Edmonton Council is stepping up to the challenge and has made significant progress towards our 2026 affordable housing goal of creating 2,700 units: ▪️ 2,341 units have been built since 2021 ▪️ 5,200 units will be fast tracked using the Housing Accelerator Fund ▪️ 3,367 people have been provided housing since 2021. While people may chose to move for affordability and thriving economy (Edmonton has more than double the national average in export growth, generating more than $110 billion in GDP), they stayed for the community, the warm and welcoming people and a quality of life enriched by festivals, arts and culture and the beautiful scenery that surrounds us. #yegcc
We’re excited that Edmonton has been recognized by Maclean's magazine as one of the "Canada’s Best Affordable Places to Live." 🎉 This title speaks to the City’s long-term goals of giving Edmontonians access to diverse, innovative and affordable housing options in communities that support their daily needs. Edmonton is truly exceptional - But don’t just take our word for it…hear directly from Edmontonians about why they love calling YEG home. 🏢Insightful as ever from Aaron Bastani on Britain's multitude of smaller cities, and the potential they hold. The history of these places has an absolutely vital role to play in their future development. 📚Historic England research shows that the public see heritage as an important source of pride in place, that the heritage sector is a source of economic prosperity and growth, and that individuals residing close to dense cultural heritage areas report higher levels of life satisfaction after controlling for socioeconomic and neighbourhood factors. ☺️Our small urban centres, with clusters of prominent Grade II listed heritage buildings around high streets for example, the more common and visible heritage assets experienced at a local level (we cant all live next to a Grade I listed Cathedral or country house) are identified as primary drivers of increased life satisfaction. 🏛️The existence and abundance of local heritage, particularly those assets that are more integrated into our daily lives, play a significant role in enhancing wellbeing. https://lnkd.in/eczpUJ7a

This sign is on the Queenstown waterfront. Remember when we didn’t need signs like this? As we struggle to find our ceiling, and continue with the same approach to stormwater and wastewater management. Be prepared to see our lakes and rivers become inaccessable and taonga species further diminish. The land and the water will not be healed until the people are healed. Educated. Now is the time to come together to innovate ourselves out of this defecit, this overloaded infrastructure and this dilemma of uncontrolled growth. Name a town that has gone from dirt roads to being stuck in traffic for an hour, like on Frankton road… that has somehow got it right? Stop with the finger pointing to council, and elected members. They are doing the best to navigate with the tools they have in their pockets. It’s not easy to find balance. The best road to resilience is kotahitanga. Unity. And we will get there together. The average Queenstowner doesn’t understand that signs like this can mean human excrement is entering our pure inland lakes and rivers. AUE! Kai te whakatau koutou, e kā whakatauka e whakawhakararu, Ana ki a tatou Mokopuna. Āpiti hono tātai hono. We make these decisions to the peril of our decendents. That which is joined remains. 💧

Heritage: " data-image-caption=" A Jamaican town street in 1941, with people of all ages dressed in worn, earth-toned clothing, queuing patiently for rationed goods, their faces etched with determination. " data-medium-file="https://lnkd.in/eX9y-cxb" data-large-file="https://lnkd.in/eT5Sxzum" tabindex="0" role="button" /> Heritage, in the context of Jamaica, real estate, and the rest of the world, refers to the tangible and intangible assets passed down through generations that hold historical, cultural, or architectural significance. In Jamaica, heritage is deeply tied to the island’s colonial history, indigenous traditions, and Afro-Caribbean culture, often reflected in the preservation of historic […] The post Heritage first appeared on Jamaica Homes. #jamaica #glossary #realestate

Historic England (officially the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England) is an executive non-departmental public body of the British Government sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. It is tasked with protecting the historic environment of England by preserving and listing historic buildings, scheduling ancient monuments, registering historic parks and gardens, advising central and local government, and promoting the public’s enjoyment of, and advancing their knowledge of, ancient monuments and historic buildings. Its recently released Historic Environment Overview 2023-24, which reports on how the UK’s heritage sector has fared over the past 12 months. The three themes of Historic England’s Heritage Counts series have also been used throughout this report to identify and highlight some of the positive outcomes achieved across sector activity this year: Heritage and Society, Heritage and the Economy, and Heritage and the Environment. #england #heritage #culturalheritage #sustainability #resiliency #culturaltourism #destinationmanagement Clara Arokiasamy- All views my own Andrew McKean Jonathan Karkut, PhD Helen Lloyd MBE Hazel McGregor Jonathan Rider Graham Bell UK John Darlington John Ward David Holdsworth Simon Woodward Aylin Orbasli Doug Evans Dr Peter Robinson Zikui Xia Hossam Mahdy
