We recently hosted our STARS Awards for the winter term. ⭐ The STARS (Social, Taking part, Attaining, Responsibility, Self-directing) awards recognise the achievements our young people have made throughout the term. For many of our students, traditional qualifications are not always an option. These awards offer an alternative way to celebrate their successes and are based on outcomes of activities undertaken during our vocational workshops. We’re so proud of all our stars! 👏

From trying very hard to understanding what is worth trying for....... Priority is the word of the week for me. Everywhere I look, I see this word again and again, which got me thinking (I am good at overthinking) about my priorities. Well, My 1st year started with 6 clear goals 🎯 1️⃣ Make Lots of friends from all 3 years and from different backgrounds 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 - Got few but lifelong friends 2️⃣ Member of all important clubs and societies 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 - Part of Few societies but, the best ones as they boosted my confidence and gave me lots of respect 3️⃣ Participate in many Competitions 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 - Participated in a few, Won only 1, but learned a lot 4️⃣ Be a part of all flagship events of the college 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 - Completed this goal by being a part of OC in all 5 flagship events. 5️⃣ Ace all exams 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 - Good GPA but couldn't ace my exams 6️⃣ The position of deputy head 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 - Didn't get the position Lessons that came out of all these situations: 📌 We should understand the difference between a friend and an acquaintance. 𝙉𝒐𝙩 𝙚𝒗𝙚𝒓𝙮𝒐𝙣𝒆 𝒊𝙨 𝙮𝒐𝙪𝒓 𝒇𝙧𝒊𝙚𝒏𝙙 📌 There is no use in joining many club memberships if they don't value you and your efforts. 𝙌𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 > 𝙌𝙪𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙮 📌 I wanted to participate in many competitions but was busy with all flagship events, and I missed many good opportunities. 𝘽𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙩 📌 Being a part of OC was a good experience, but it was incredibly exhausting, and sometimes, unhealthy competition was present. 𝑴𝙚𝒏𝙩𝒂𝙡 𝙖𝒏𝙙 𝙥𝒉𝙮𝒔𝙞𝒄𝙖𝒍 𝒘𝙚𝒍𝙡-𝙗𝒆𝙞𝒏𝙜 𝙞𝒔 𝒕𝙝𝒆 1𝙨𝒕 𝒑𝙧𝒊𝙤𝒓𝙞𝒕𝙮 📌 Managing events and classes together impacted my exams. 𝙄𝒎𝙥𝒐𝙧𝒕𝙖𝒏𝙘𝒆 𝒐𝙛 𝙥𝒓𝙞𝒐𝙧𝒊𝙩𝒊𝙯𝒊𝙣𝒈 𝒂𝙣𝒅 𝒕𝙞𝒎𝙚 𝙢𝒂𝙣𝒂𝙜𝒆𝙢𝒆𝙣𝒕 📌 Didn't get the Deputy head position but, got to know about my weaknesses. 𝙒𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙣'𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 And honestly, I'll say that it's not easy, but it is the reality of life, and the best we can do is to accept it and move on. Focusing on what we have is the best way to improve ourselves, and to focus on something, it is important to identify it and prioritize it. Only by prioritizing can we actually do all important tasks. Graduating from university as "best graduating student" is not a requirement for graduation, a first class degree is not a requirement to graduate from any school. A second class degree (upper or lower), will get you a certificate, even a third class and a pass, and the certificate will say you have, "satisfied the requirements..." But, there's more to graduating than satisfying the requirements. Graduating with a First Class is a choice. From when you enter the school, you start to work towards that choice. Everything you do, every action, every study, every book, every class attended, every group study, every research done, every academic discussion, and every article read is geared towards achieving, maintaining and protecting that goal of a first class degree. You don't NEED to be excellent, you WANT to be excellent. Excellence is a CHOICE. You can get away with doing the bare minimum, but is that what you want? Excellence gets you noticed, putting you in the top percentile. Excellence is from the Latin, excellere, (to rise or project). It is related to the Latin collis (hill), and culmen (top). Excellence means to stand on a hill. And when you stand on a hill, EVERYBODY SEES YOU! It's a brand new week. Make this week count!

Great recognition of our superb values-led approach, and particularly good to see that the critical cross-cutting themes of Diversity and Inclusion, and Environmental Sustainability are being recognised. Across the sector, these must be at the fore of how we evolve within the current fiscal and regulatory environment. What we do, and how we do it, matter.
We have been awarded a prestigious 5 Stars and rated ‘excellent’ by QS Stars, a globally recognised university rating system. 🎉 This highlights our commitment to excellence across a wide range of categories to create a great experience for our UK and international students, from graduate employability to sports facilities and community engagement. Our 5 Star rating includes standout performances across categories including environmental impact and diversity, equity, and inclusion—areas at the heart of who we are. https://lnkd.in/eZfFzCQ3

Skills and Competencies will overtake Degrees In my view , while acquiring a University Degree will not fade , more and more organisations, will focus on skills, and Competencies . Skills like Emotional Intelligence, Resilience, Adaptability, Complexity Solving Skills , Leadership, Creative and Innovative Skills , Interpersonal Skills , will be more important for people to succeed in the Market place . There will be less emphasis on degrees and even class of degrees, it will be a fair playing ground, based on the relevant skills and Competencies required. So start working on your personal development, and skill acquisition like never before, and worry less about any other thing . It's almost Christmas 🎁 🎄🎉⭐ and this is part of my Christmas gift to you . You're welcome. Bolaji Shote - December 2024 Copyright ©️

Degree awarding powers for the Dyson Institute, that's what I call an exciting development in the UK higher education landscape. Elsewhere, industry embedded university degrees have been around for decades: you draw a salary, you earn a degree, chances are you might be taken on afterwards .. what's not to like? When it comes to engineering, the cross-over with business dimensions right from the start is particularly important. The UK had a proud tradition at the 'polytechnics' of the 1970s of offering blended degrees of precisely that kind, and I have met a good number of practitioners over the years who stressed how crucial these degrees were in launching their careers at the innovation interface, where successful engineering and management teams need to combine seamlessly for promising inventions to evolve into marketable products. Many of the current crop of 'sandwich' courses are a pale shadow of that tradition, and not just because in place of a salary, students are typically asked to pay for the privilege. As to the latest fashion of 'degree apprenticeships': well if it is a degree and if it can be embedded, why muddy the waters and call it 'apprenticeship', thereby further devaluing 'non-degree' apprenticeships which have a hard enough stance in the market already? The MEng degree at the Dyson Institute is a fresh approach and one that will hopefully be copied by other major players in the engineering and other sectors before long.
We're excited to announce we have been awarded full degree-awarding powers, ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating in all areas, and globally recognised IET accreditation. "These achievements are testament to our dedicated and talented team, to a thriving and engaged student community, and to a vast network of committed executives, line managers, technical mentors and wide-ranging support teams at Dyson. " Beverley Gibbs, Director of the Dyson Institute. Read the full story on our website: https://lnkd.in/dtk8QK-S

Difference between Award or Reward Understanding the distinction between "award" and "reward" is essential for accurately recognizing achievements and incentives. While both terms imply a form of acknowledgment, they cater to different contexts and criteria. "Award" refers to a recognition given https://lnkd.in/d73_e2-p

This past January, I applied for the Live Más Scholarship funded by the Taco Bell Foundation. This was my 4th and final time applying. For the 4th year in a row, I have been awarded the Live Más Scholarship. Over the past 4 years, I have been honored to receive a total of $75,000 for my education. I am so grateful for all the foundation has done for me through my college journey. How do you plan to use your passion to make your community, country, and/or the world a better place? What steps have you taken to create this change since being seated a Live Màs Scholarship? How has the enrollment into post-secondary education helped to develop your passion and make the chnage you want to see in the world?
