I recently had the distinct honor to represent the Harris Health System School of Diagnostic Medical Imaging at the 2024 TxSRT conference to present my topic, AR in IR. Since starting the program, I have been incredibly passionate about patient care, and dose reduction for the sake of everyone involved with the exam(s). *brief background* In the fall of 2017, not too long after my 18th birthday, I was electrocuted. Very soon after, it became necessary for me to experience a multitude of imaging procedures before & after my two cardiac ablations. Thankfully as of 2021, I am fully recovered and no longer restricted by my health. I am extremely thankful and grateful for the many dedicated healthcare professionals who worked day in and out to save my life. Fast forward to the present day, as someone who is days away from becoming a healthcare professional myself. I often find myself thinking about my journey, and reminding myself to never forget what it felt like to be in the patient’s position. To care about their well-being. To put their best interests at the forefront of my mind and keep them there. Given that, I find that although diagnostic imaging has grown exponentially in almost every aspect, I still fervently believe that it will not stop evolving. It shouldn’t stop evolving. We shouldn’t become complacent with the current systems, just because it works. Progression should not be slowed down. I wanted to bring attention to a revolutionary subject that I personally believe will be the next step to improving both diagnostic and operative efficacy.
