The “Motu Matau” Smart Offshore Ecosystem project studied by The Indigo Civilization, in partnership with the NGO Plastic Odyssey, has been nominated as part of the Jacques Rougerie Foundation's International Design and Architecture Competition. Our study was designed to facilitate the collection and recovery of plastic waste in the ocean, helping communities threatened by rising sea levels to adapt. As a logistics platform, offshore port and source of green energy, Motu Matau is inspired by the circular economy of natural ecosystems. This self-sufficient, self-generating, inhabited experimental station enables mankind to learn how to live and thrive on the ocean in a sustainable way, in symbiosis with the marine world.
