Company offsites are not cheap. You have to pay for space, food, lots of coffee, activities, and most 💵 … your people’s time! It can be easy to justify waiting to make this type of investment. When I partner with CEOs to host these gatherings, here’s how we ensure the investment is worth it ⤵ 1. Design with the end in mind. What are the desired outcomes of the event? How will your team be different as a result of the offsite? 2. Connection is central. How can we get people talking who don’t typically spend time together? Where can we prioritize connection over content? 3. Integrate the learning How will your team apply the learnings immediately after they leave? How can we measure the impact of the event? With these three principles as our guiding light, I help my clients design and facilitate company #offsites that drive alignment, engagement, and meaningful connection. Last week, we had our quarterly all-hands event or as we call it, “Renewal.” Renewal is a time to pause working IN the business and instead work ON the business. Organizations, like people, need to reset, reorient, refocus, and ‘renew’. As a team, we align, connect, celebrate, and engage around the vision for the company and strategy for the quarter. This was a special Renewal. → We welcomed many new people to the team this past quarter. Teams grew across the entire company as we nearly doubled our R&D capacity and added to our customer team. → We celebrated 9 new promotions across the organization in the last quarter! → We opened new offices in Waterloo and New York. → We are launching some industry game-changing products in the second half of this year. → And we celebrated record-breaking growth over the last 12 months, knowing that with the growth of our customer network and integration partners comes even greater collaboration across the industry. As a company, we reflected on Q2 and planned for Q3. We also looked ahead to the future, with our ‘North Star’ being the most reliable end-to-end Loss & Safety Intelligence platform, serving the most incredible customers in the world as they protect people and profit. We distill our long-term vision down to the year and then to quarterly goals in a one-page plan. But it’s not just about hitting goals We spent time getting to know each other through an exercise called “MyTakes” where teammates share their origin stories and their passions - a powerful way to build connection across the organization. Most importantly, we spent an entire day focused on our company philosophies Or, as we call them at ThinkLP, our ‘Think-losophies’ (more to share here). Finally, we recognized the amazing achievements of individuals and teams. What better way to celebrate this team's success over 1H ‘24 and commit to another quarter of excellence? ONE team. Yesterday I shared the exciting news I joined Traction Complete as their first CRO to help tackle next adventures of the company! I was overwhelmed at responses of congratulations - so thank you! A few years ago, I was attending NextPoint, my favorite retail technology event, when I found myself debating whether to attend the opening dinner. Feeling a bit guilty, I decided to go, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made. The speaker that night was Roy Spence, a man whose words would change my life forever. Roy Spence, co-founder of The Purpose Institute, spoke passionately about the importance of purpose, both professionally and personally. His insights resonated with me on a profound level. Before that evening, I had never truly considered what motivates me, what makes me happy, or why I do what I do. Since that night, understanding the purpose behind my actions have become a cornerstone of my life. 𝐈 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 "𝐰𝐡𝐲." When I mentor others, I encourage them to think deeply about their motivations and goals. Whether they're seeking new roles, titles, or projects, I push them to consider the "why" behind their requests and what achieving success will mean for them. On a personal level, embracing purpose has been equally transformative. It has helped me focus on what truly matters, reducing anxiety, and keeping me energized. I prioritize spending time with people who align with my greater purpose and bring joy and meaning to my life. This focus has allowed me to eliminate sources of pain, angst, and frustration, leading to a more fulfilling and balanced life.
