Great article! What stands out to me is a trend we consistently observe with our clients: as companies deploy AI, cloud services, and other hosting platforms, they are shifting from physical costs, such as reduced human capital, to technology-based costs. Traditionally labor-driven expenses are now transforming into technology-driven ones. While tech budgets may increase, total costs should ideally decrease. However, this is not always the case unless strict technology expense management protocols are in place. You can read the full article here-

Do you ever get the sense that the people shouting "Companies are repatriating workloads from the cloud" are the same people who shouting "You don't need an IT shop anymore -- it will all be in the cloud!" three years ago? Had a chance to take a look at a thoughtful UBS research report on 3Q #cloud spend, - overall cloud revenue growth remains steady, so any repatriation now showing up on the numbers yet - About 1/3 of the customers they spoke to cited some intention for repatriation. Obviously, scale and content for repatriation not clear. For a couple of applications or many? For applications they lifted-and-shifted or ones they remediated? And, as with anything in cloud, there is a long road from intention to reality. Repatriation takes time and effort, just as migration does. Some color from their customer interviews - Tremendous pressure from boards and senior management teams to "do something" with #GenAI, even they don't know what something is - In any event, AI pull through an increasingly important driver (As we indicated would be the case the McKinsey & Company report "In search of cloud value: Can generative AI transform cloud ROI?" last year - Continued dispersion in capabilities provided by different CSPs, contributing to large companies running multi-cloud environments (even with the cost of maintaining multiple foundational platforms) - Case for staying on prem stronger if you can't enforce any financial discipline on your developers - Cost migration continues to be the biggest barrier to cloud adoption. Thanks to Karl Keirstead, Stephen Ju, Taylor McGinnis, Jeff Hickey, Seth Gilbert and Jack Fyda for a very helpful report!

How To Wisely Manage Tech Platforms: 20 Expert Tips #8. Use Open #APIs Whenever Possible Stick to using open #APIs, or if that is not possible (for example, if you’re using a native cloud platform service), ensure that any platform-specific code is in its own module or library and is not deeply embedded throughout the codebase. By wrapping platform-specific code in a generic façade, you limit how much rework will need to be done if you change platforms, and it will all be in one place. Curious about the other 19 tips, check out the article on Forbes Technology Council Inflectra #CIO #CTO
