A simple reminder for perspective…remember 73,648,743 people voted for Kamala. It wasn’t 100, 10k, 100k or even 1MM but 73.6MM. Imagine what 73.6MM voices can do. Just a simple reminder. #socialimpact #dogood #purpose #community #connection #people

Hey everyone, it's Raphael Islamuratov here! I was born in Bashkortostan, home to the indigenous Bashkir nation, which has around 2 million people worldwide. After university, I moved to Sakhalin Island, where the indigenous nations include the Ainu, Oroks, and Nivkhs, though they are now present in very small numbers. I’ve seen firsthand how indigenous people, for many reasons, are losing their mother tongue and cultural identity. Indigenous languages are particularly vulnerable because many are not taught in schools or used in the public sphere. Now, I'm part of SPE's Diversity and Inclusion Committee, driven by my personal experiences to make a real difference in the lives of my community and colleagues, especially my female counterparts. My mom’s hard work, juggling two jobs to provide for our family as a single mother while maintaining her faith in a male-dominated and Islamophobic field, has deeply influenced my views on workplace fairness. I dream of a future where struggles are a thing of the past, where biases and stereotypes about race, gender, and background are broken, and where women can advance smoothly in their careers and reach their full potential. August 9, 2024, is the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples. This day recognizes the rights of Indigenous Peoples, including their right to make their own decisions, participate in global efforts, and maintain their culture and traditions. New Zealand's Māori proverb says, “Who stands lives; who sits perishes.” What would you do to break biases and stereotypes in your community and workplace? #wearespe #DiversityandInclusion #Bashkir #IndigenousPeople #stereotypes #Bias #Sakhalin

When the week begins with a worthwhile and meaningful #win, it’s a great start. In August, the thought struck me to qualify as a board-ready independent director. To understand how, I reached out to my trusty college alumni network. As always, Nipa Dutta had an answer. She introduced me to Aspire For Her , a women’s conglomeration that runs a mentorship program called #WINBoard to prepare and prime women to take on board positions. Madhura DasGupta Sinha , Ruchita Tandon and the entire team at AFH supported and rallied around us, creating a meticulously thought-out programme. As a part of the coursework, the participants were segregated into teams to work with an NGO apiece, helping them prepare an investor pitch based on the NGOs’ requirements. The Mumbai cohort was assigned to Apnalaya that works with the urban poor. It runs a unique Citizenship programme that enables and empowers residents of urban slums to independently seek solutions for their existential problems. This, in the long run, is a sustainable way of helping out the underserved. We spent a couple of intense weeks visiting Apnalaya’s office and areas of impact, visiting a community centre in Govandi where we met a bunch of enterprising homepreneurs from the area at a loss to market their products simply by dint of being residents of one of the world’s most populous, disease-ridden, crime-infested, life-threatening urban pockets. The Apnalaya team led by Praveen Singh and Poornima Nair tirelessly provided us with data and information, answering our questions and guiding whenever we reached out. Then, Deepti Matai , Gauri Ambardekar - Raje, Sonal Dave, Bhakti Dama and I put together the pitch for Apnalaya, incorporating storytelling into it. And the outcome was a resounding win from amongst 5 contenders. This win is special not just because we worked beautifully together, utilizing each person’s strength to the best effect, but because of what Apnalaya stands for. If you are interested to know more about their work and wish to help out, do visit their website or LinkedIn page. And if you are a woman seeking a mentor or a programme designed to further you in your career or business, do check out Aspire For Her. Because together we win!

JUNKISM IN CHAWAMA CONSTITUENCY! Calling all interested stakeholders.. Community Engagement in Chawama: Addressing the Youth Crisis 📣 This week, I had a serious conversation with a group of young people known as "Ma Junky" in Chawama Constituency. I challenged them to change their behavior and emphasized the urgent need for collaboration in fighting this destructive vice. During our engagement, I could see a glimmer of hope — a sign that change is possible. But it is clear that the earlier we bring community stakeholders together to address this issue, the better, before it grows into a much larger problem. As I continue launching the Komboni Approach to Development, my heart grows heavy with the harsh realities faced by our communities. In my brief book, “Pillars of Komboni Development”, I argue that while behavioral change is intentional, the lived poverty of our neighborhoods deeply shapes our everyday realities. This is a call to action for us all — government, local leaders, families, and youths — to unite and invest in the future of our communities. Together, we can break the cycle and create a positive environment for the next generation. Let’s build a better Chawama, one step at a time. 🌍💪 #KomboniDevelopment #YouthEmpowerment #CommunityChange

#TransformativeJourneywithkanthari We are immensely grateful for the opportunity to be part of Kanthari, an impactful leadership training program that has completely revolutionized the DE Hub India concept and reshaped our approach to empowering the disabled community. Over the course of 12 months, the program has not only equipped us with the tools to establish our organization but has also transformed our mindset and understanding of societal needs and gaps. The essence of the Kanthari journey lies not in merely setting up an organization or advancing a social cause but in cultivating a profound understanding of the community's needs and bridging the gap between problems and solutions. It's about honing your approach, recognizing your inner strengths, and shifting your mindset towards achieving your goals. We wholeheartedly recommend exploring the Kanthari website to anyone interested in creating positive change. This scholarship-based leadership program eliminates financial barriers, allowing participants to focus solely on their goals without worrying about expenses. It's a journey of self-discovery and empowerment that transcends financial limitations. #Kanthari #LeadershipTraining #Empowerment #SocialChange #ScholarshipProgram #DisabilityEmpowerment #transformativejourney
