🚀 We are thrilled to announce the launch of the TAPIR project, funded by VLAIO - Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship and SPW Economie Emploi Recherche through the BELCOO funding scheme! IBA and The Binding Energy join their effort, with the ambition to minimize the nuclear waste and enhance radiation workers safety.   🎯 The TAPIR project’s goal is to develop a cutting-edge tool suite that automates and simplifies the assessment of radioisotope generation, activation levels, and ambient dose during and after the operation of particle accelerators. This initiative will contribute strengthening Belgium nuclear expertise, providing new tools and creating high skilled jobs.

In 2025, armed conflicts may cool down, shifting the focus of superpower competition back to issues of free trade and protectionism. Vietnam and Canada share a similar position as neighboring nations with deeply integrated economies alongside the main players in this trade war. Significant collaborations between Vietnam and Canada in both multilateral and bilateral free trade frameworks have been highlighted, yet unresolved issues remain. For instance, Vietnam has yet to remove the ENT rules against Canadian retail investors as committed under the CPTPP (five years after ratification, which was Jan 2024). In response, Canada denies Vietnamese investors the application of intra-company transfer under the same FTA. Furthermore, recent anti-dumping investigations on Vietnamese goods exported to Canada have also created new barriers for free trade between the two countries. It is hoped that this Vietnam-Canada dialogue in Vancouver, with the participation of Vietnam's Minister of Industry and Trade, will address these pressing issues openly and work towards practical solutions to facilitate mutual investment opportunities for businesses from both sides. What started in February as an ambitious project has turned into a powerful piece of knowledge that reflects the hopes and expectations of BRICS+ youth, urging our leaders to pave the way for a nuclear-powered, sustainable future. As the Chief Expert of the group, my role wasn’t just to lead—it was to learn. The true strength of our work came from the brilliant minds and dedication of each member of the team. To Bianca, Heba, Omondi, Ridhi, and everyone not on LinkedIn, this achievement is a testament to your hard work, passion, and persistence. I’m incredibly grateful to have had the privilege of working alongside you. A special mention goes to Milana. Officially, she is the secretary of the expert group, but to me, she was the heartbeat of this project. Milana kept us focused, unified, and determined—your unwavering support made this journey smoother and more rewarding than I could have imagined. I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the BRICS YEA team—Alexander, Vadim, Arsenii and Irina —for placing your trust in me to lead this initiative. Today, I participated in International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) “Nuclear Energy Summit” in Brussels. I have to say that it was one of the most interesting energy events in a while! We heard the EU Commission and several heads of states declaring that without nuclear there will be no net-zero societies. In the panel discussions with participants from large customer and energy companies, investment banks and ministries from different countries. One could say that all different viewpoints were represented, both nationally, regionally and globally. The panel discussions were packed with topics that are extremely relevant for us at Fortum too. Factors influencing the deployment of nuclear is something we are looking into ourselves as well with our feasibility study assessing options for nuclear newbuilds in Finland and/or Sweden. Financing, regulation, competent workforce, project management, market design, decarbonisation, customer views and other familiar concepts were addressed thoroughly.
