Hamilton Moves in the Right Direction! City Of Hamilton has endorsed new Green Building Standards starting October 9 this year, taking a huge leap toward creating a bird-friendly urban landscape! These standards specifically address the critical issue of bird collisions and key measures include: ➡️Designing in accordance with the CSA Group Bird-Friendly Building Design Standard A4601. ➡️Treating at least 90% of exterior glazing within 16 meters of the ground with bird-friendly strategies (such as visual markers and visual patterns on glass) ➡️Applying collision mitigation measures adjacent to green roofs and vegetation up to 4 meters in height. ➡️Eliminating fly-through effects and using specified bird-safe glass. This comes as another feather in Hamilton’s cap after the city became the 6th certified Bird Friendly City in Canada in April 2022. By prioritizing these measures, Hamilton is enhancing its buildings and working to protect local wildlife and promote a healthier ecosystem. We are very lucky to be leading the process of establishing and creating a number of new ‘Park and Green Space - Maintenance and Management Plans’. Our process allows us to gather the views of a wide range of key stakeholders of each site, meet with community groups and the managing agent. We follow guidance from CabeSpace, The International Green Flag Award (of which we are training Judges) and follow best practice guidelines throughout. Ensuring that prescribed maintenance programmes are both achievable and horticulturally correct. We work closely with all of these interested groups to bring about a plan for the future management and direction of each Green Space. Being huge fans of parks and open spaces and with over 2 decades of experience in developing and delivering their holistic management, EDR Landscapes are able to offer a custom service, with ongoing support; helping ensure that the current fiscal uncertainty does not impact negatively on the management of key parks and open spaces throughout of communities.
