At Building Careers, we believe it's crucial to create a supportive environment where employees feel comfortable discussing their mental health. Similarly, with our family and friends, offering support and understanding can make a big difference. While initiatives like Mental Health Awareness Week are great for sparking much-needed conversations in the workplace, it's key to remember that people struggle with mental health all year round. It's important to understand and support those close to you 365 days a year. #BuildingCareers #BuildingCommunities #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealth #MHAW2024

While World Mental Health Day was yesterday, it reminds us of the importance of mental well-being each and every day. While many organizations proudly promote mental health programs on the anniversary, the true test lies in daily practices—how leadership supports and protects the well-being of their pack. Real support comes from "walking and talking the walk"—every single day as John Maxwell describes in his book High Road Leadership. This approach isn't always the norm although I’ve seen it implemented holistically when working with First Nation communities, and there’s so much we can learn from them. Mental health doesn’t start and end with an initiative or a policy; it’s about consistent actions that create safe, supportive environments. It means giving employees space when they need it, respecting boundaries, and ensuring that mental health conversations are backed by meaningful change in how we treat others with professionalism, kindness, and empathy. On my own journey, I haven’t always been able to embody this fully, especially after experiencing bullying and harassment as a child, into adulthood, and in my career. Those challenges have taught me the importance of striving to be the kind of supervisor I’d want to have—someone who fosters respect, psychological safety, and genuine support. #MentalHealthMatters Photo: Jenny Golding

Mental Illness Awareness Week reminds us of the profound influence of mental health on our work lives, affecting creativity, productivity, confidence, and relationships. In the U.S., one in five adults faces mental health challenges annually, impacting individuals, their networks, and workplaces. Let's unite as managers, HR professionals, and employees to foster workplaces where open dialogues on mental health are welcomed. Creating a culture of support and empathy can empower everyone to bring their best selves to work. #MentalHealthAwareness #SupportiveWorkplace #MentalIllnessAwarenessWeek #WorldMentalHealthDay

This week casts a spotlight on an aspect of our lives that we shouldn't overlook - our mental health. It's Mental Health Awareness Week, and it's high time we embrace open discussions! Caring for our mental well-being is just as crucial as maintaining our physical health, yet it's often relegated to hushed conversations. We ask ourselves, why is this the case? Is it because of stigma or perhaps discomfort? Whatever the reason, it's time to break down those barriers. Speaking up not only heals but also provides support and fortifies our communities. Your mental state is significant every single day, regardless of whether you're at home, in the office, or anywhere else. At H Squared Talent, commitment to this cause is part of our ethos. We advocate for a workplace environment that consistently prioritises mental health, ensuring it's infused into our daily rhythm. Let's ensure we're fostering spaces where support for employees transcends policy and becomes a concrete practice. 📢 Here's our call to action: Be part of the dialogue. Share your own experiences or simply lend a supportive ear. It's about time we make mental health care a regular part of our conversations. #MentalWellbeing #WorkplaceCulture #EverydayMentalHealth #EmployeeSupport #MentalHealthAwareness #WorkplaceWellness

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. What does this month mean to you? For me, it means creating opportunities for open, honest, and even difficult conversations about tangible steps we can take to prioritize mental well-being and provide support in the workplace, this month and beyond. With only 33% of adults struggling with mental illness receiving treatment, it means that we could work with people holding in their struggles and pain. When we provide a true sense of stability and support for employees, it can have a bigger positive impact than we may realize. What initiatives have you or your organization taken to prioritize mental health in the workplace? What worked and what didn't? #MentalHealthMonth #MentalHealth #EmployeeWellbeing
