We're coming up on 30 days of living the full-time RV life… What do you want to know? Here's what I've learned so far! 1. Be patient… With traffic, with people, with everything. Not many understand the lifestyle, which means they have questions. As well, if you've never hauled a 30+ foot trailer through rush hour traffic, you're not living 😅 2. You need about 69% less stuff than you think! This is significant cause; growing up, we're taught that more is better. I don't see that to be true anymore. Especially when it comes to "stuff," if it doesn't serve a purpose, bringing it along for the ride is unnecessary. The same can be said for specific relationships. 3. COMMUNITY IS EVERYTHING! This has been a common theme for the last few years, but more than ever, it rings true. We've already met some fantastic people on our journey and had the pleasure of absorbing an incredible amount of knowledge from them. Growing up, the term "trailer trash" was thrown around a lot. We didn't know any better, and heck, maybe things were different then… All I know is that when I look around at my neighbors, there isn't a rig on the block worth less than six figures, and the vehicles parked out front of them are damn close. The folks living inside are entrepreneurs, business owners, and hard-working Americans committed to fulfilling their dream of freedom. Good wholesome folk… This is just the beginning of a journey that I'm sure will profoundly impact our family's future! Six months later... #familystartuplife got a lot more exciting than planned for awhile (in case anyone noticed my 6 month absence). After three months of being unhoused - not homeless thankfully! - we found a stable and happy living situation for our family. And yes, your eyes do not deceive you, that's a fifth wheel trailer sitting on a field. We are surprisingly loving it a lot more than expected. Tight budgets, fluctuating income, four kids, and a cat do not make finding housing a simple task, especially in the outrageous rental market that is San Diego. Running a business while managing being unhoused? It's brutal. My empathy for people experiencing housing issues has exploded. Dealing with housing stuff saps your time, energy, and emotional bandwidth, leaving you attempting to carry on as usual with very little. We could not have done it without the massive help and generosity of our family. That's the truth of #startupfamilylife - you can't do it alone, no matter how rockstar your spouse is or how flexible your kids might be. To those of you experiencing your own challenges in this phase, hang in there! Reach out for help. And know that it's normal to have life issues interfere with your business plans.
