Member Build to Zero has secured their first commercial contract to install their #ThermalBox technology at Grupo Acideka's chlorine plant to eliminate fossil fuel use and achieve #netzero emissions by 2026.   Located at Dekitra's plant, a subsidiary of Grupo Acideka in Álava, Spain, Build to Zero’s ThermalBox will replace two fossil fuel-powered boilers, enabling the generation of process steam from 100% #renewable electricity.    By combining power-to-heat technology with thermal energy storage, the system will utilize renewable #energy from a nearby 4.39 MWp photovoltaic plant to generate up to 4.1 tons of steam per hour.    The system represents a significant step forward in competitive #decarbonization, preventing the emission of 1,277 tons of CO2 equivalent annually.   Build to Zero is committed to decarbonizing industrial processes through long duration energy storage solutions that deliver continuous heat, promoting a #sustainable and clean #energy future.   The #Time4Action is now to ensure #3xRenewables by 2030. 📢 PreZero & Cepsa Join Forces for Biomethane Plants in Spain! 🇪🇸 🚀 PreZero España and Cepsa have announced a strategic alliance to develop biomethane plants from organic waste, marking a significant step towards sustainable energy solutions. 📍 Location: Palos de la Frontera, Huelva. 📈 Capacity: Up to 100 GWh annually, making it one of Spain's largest renewable energy installations. 🙌 Integration: Located within Cepsa's energy park, also home to a major 2G biocombustible plant. 🌟 Project Highlights🌟: ✅ The biomethane will be used to produce green hydrogen and other renewable fuels, supporting Cepsa's extensive transition to renewable energy. ✅The plant will process used cooking oils and other organic wastes to create second-generation biofuels and circular chemical products, potentially including projects to process non-recyclable plastics. ✅PreZero, which produced 75% of Spain's biometano in 2023, offers Cepsa preferential access to biomethane from strategic projects, including the use of biogenic CO2 for synthetic fuels production. Very excited about the positive prospects for biomethane projects in Spain and Europe! Biomethane, a renewable gas produced from biomass, is positioned as a key player in the energy transition and the fight against climate change. Why is biomethane so promising? - Decarbonisation: Biomethane is a clean alternative to fossil fuels, as its production and consumption generate a significantly lower carbon footprint. - Circular economy: It makes use of organic and agricultural waste, converting it into a source of energy. - Energy security: Reduces dependence on fossil fuel imports and contributes to energy security. - Compatibility with existing infrastructure: Biomethane can be injected directly into the existing natural gas grid, which facilitates its integration into the current energy system. Current situation and prospects in Spain:   - **Production potential:** Spain has an estimated biomethane production potential of 163 TWh/year, which could cover around 45% of the national natural gas demand.   - **Projects in development:** Currently, there are around 200 biomethane projects in the pipeline, indicating growing interest in this sector.   - **Expected investments:** An investment of 4.1 billion euros is anticipated over the next two years, with an additional 12.4 billion by 2030, positioning Spain among the top five European countries in biomethane investment.   - **Impact on rural areas:** Biomethane development could generate wealth and employment in areas affected by depopulation, contributing to rural development. Biomethane projects should become a key driver for our market and I am only hoping that the commitment and overall excitement will not fade as I fear that it has partially happened with green hydrogen projects.  

The largest #biogas plant in Southern Europe could see the light in Catalonia and is set to be operational by 2025. The 200 GWh biogas plant will be located in La Sentiu de Sió and 220 nearby farmers are expected to supply between 420,000 to 450,000 tons/year of manure. The Catalan Biogas Plan forecasts that biogas production in 2030 could reach 3.3 TWh/year, equivalent to 13% of current natural gas consumption.

#ECONOMY European Energy's first e-methanol plant starts up Danish company European Energy has announced the construction of the world's first e-methanol plant in Kass, Denmark. The investment will amount to €400 million and production is scheduled to start in 2024. The plant will produce up to 42,000 tons of methanol per year. Future plans include similar plants in Portugal, Spain, the US and Brazil, each requiring investments of up to €1 billion. Expansion in Portugal and beyond In Portugal, sites in Aveiro, Figueira da Foz and Setubal are being considered for a new plant that will produce e-methanol for the global market. The company is also exploring opportunities to produce biogas that could be used to feed the grid or power the new plants. 40% of Andalusian orujo, a by-product of oil extraction, will be transformed into #biomethane. German VORN Bioenergy & Spanish GREENAR will collaborate on 11 projects, which are expected to produce 1 TWh/year worth of biomethane, equivalent to the gas consumption of more than 200,000 homes. One of the most simple ways of CCU. Biogas consists of 20-50% CO2 which is often separated from methane (50-80%) anyway prior to use of the methane. The first CCU plant in Sweden using biogas, is now under construction. 😃👏
