☝️ Why mid-career is a common time for women to change it up. Author of, “Leap: Why It's Time to Let Go to Get Ahead in Your Career” Jess Galica gives invaluable advice in this episode of Bucket List Careers! An executive coach with a mission to redefine for high-performing women what a successful career looks like, Jess believes today's generation of women rising into leadership ranks grew up with toxic career narratives telling us to "lean in" or "opt out." In reality, women's experiences in the workforce are not so black and white. A successful corporate leader, Jess had worked at top organizations like Bain, Apple, and beyond. Yet reaching these "dream" career heights left her feeling unfulfilled and empty. When she started talking to other women rising up in leadership she quickly discovered that her story—building a career, doing everything “right”, but waking up lost—is not unique! 🔗 Listen now wherever you get your podcasts or click the link here: https://lnkd.in/ggpnd7Cp

Happy Brave Women at Worth Thursday! To be a strong leader and a brave women at work, I am confident that we need to know what our strengths are and how to harness them. I don’t know about you, but for the longest time I thought I needed to shore up my weaknesses to be “right” for a particular role. On top of that, I thought I needed to know everything about the role too, all the ins and outs. Wrong. After over 20 years in corporate, I have learned that we all have a balance sheet of strengths and weaknesses. I need to double-down on my strengths, not waste time trying to shore up my weaknesses. In place of doing that, I need to find people in my team that complement my strengths. Maybe these team members are strong in my areas of weakness. And no, I cannot know everything about a job. My guest today, Dr. Cheryl Lovell, helps me further understand the CliftonStrengths Assessment by the Gallup Organization. This was an awesome conversation, and one I am sure you will enjoy. During our conversation, Dr. Cheryl and I chatted about: 1. What the CliftonStrengths assessment is and why knowing our strengths is important 2. If we need to take the assessment again after taking it the first time 3. What we do next with our results to improve our personal and professional lives 4. How leaders and teams can use CliftonStrengths to their advantage 5. The ROI of the CliftonStrengths assessment 6. How the assessment can help you navigate challenging personal and professional relationships 7. Listen in to this week's episode of my Work from the Inside Out podcast as I sit down with Ellen Taaffe, a Clinical Associate Professor at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. With a wealth of experience in top brand management roles and as an independent board director, Ellen shares insights from her journey and her recent award-winning book, "The Mirrored Door: Break Through the Hidden Barrier that Locks Successful Women in Place." Ellen says, "Tap into your courage. We're in a world where everyone's searching for confidence. Courage comes first. Courage is what you need to move forward, to ask for that meeting, to ask for advice, or to go for the job. You gain confidence after taking that action and either succeeding or falling and getting back up. But we likely have more courage and need to tap into it." Are you curious about what could be holding you back in your career? The latest episode of the Happier at Work podcast with Ellen Taaffe is now live. Ellen's journey from a 25-year corporate career to teaching at Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management and authoring her award-winning book "The Mirrored Door" is nothing short of inspiring. Here are a few key takeaways from our conversation: 🔑 Replace the self-doubt of "Who am I to do this?" with the empowering question, "Why not me?" - essential for stepping into leadership roles and seizing opportunities. 🔑 Women often fall into the trap of "eagerly pleasing," which can lead to neglecting personal needs and failing to set boundaries. It's crucial to advocate for yourself as you would for others and establish strategies for managing conflicts without harming relationships. 🔑 Courage, rather than confidence, drives professional advancement. By taking courageous actions, women can build the confidence needed to navigate and lead in their careers effectively. Ellen's insights deeply resonated with me and I know they reflect the experiences many of us face in the workplace. Shoutout to Elizabeth (Ella) Lucas-Averett, M.B.A. - I first came across Ellen’s work on Ella’s brilliant podcast On Air with Ella. 🎧 Listen 👇 #happieratwork #podcast #genderequity #WomenInBusiness #CareerDevelopment

Well, that's it! We've closed the doors to the final RISE Accelerate program for 2024. We have possibly the most diverse and pumped cohort I’ve ever had enrol, so far. Now we shift our attention to our fabulous LAUNCH PARTY! This is followed by 8 live sessions—no snoozy videos in this program. It’s all live energy and laser-like focus on 8 modules that I believe will take you from where you are today to where you need to be as a successful businesswoman in today’s environment. It’s so easy to keep behaving like you always have and hope that your career progresses. My favourite expression is "what got you here won’t get you there", and I believe this because, for most women, they need to shift gears from being the tactician to the strategist, from being the pleaser to the assertive communicator, from the doer to the leader, and so on. No one tells you this stuff, and that’s why RISE is chock-full of the unspoken rules to career advancement—the stuff you need to know that no one tells you. I always get comments from women in the program about how they’ve attended every leadership program under the sun in their organisations and still never learned what strategic acumen actually is, how to say no to someone without damaging their reputation, how to navigate office politics, or how to make their value visible. It’s the stuff you need to know! If you missed joining this program, you can jump on the waitlist for 2025 here https://lnkd.in/eBWMnW3A On a different note, if you fancy some inspiring listening, I've had some superb guests on the Your Brilliant Career podcast lately. Check these out: 👉 If you need help with change, tune into my uplifting interview with Dr Kate Byrne. Find it here https://lnkd.in/gU78n8Ng 👉 If career transitions are on your mind, check out my chat with TED speaker John Tarnoff MA/MSP. What strategic and people-centered leadership are and how Vera has used these principles to become the CEO of Cydcor 4. The book that Vera has been reading for 23 years in a row and why. 5. Let's talk about the elephant in the room: corporate DEI initiatives. We saw a surge after the BLM movement, with companies scrambling to hire Chief Diversity Officers. Now? Many are scaling back or cutting these roles entirely. Victoria Pelletier dropped some hard truths about this on the podcast: Less than 10% of Fortune 500 CEOs are women Only SIX are Black Less than 2% of VC funding goes to women founders A measly 0.5% goes to Black founders These aren't just stats. They're a wake-up call. Diversity isn't a box to tick. It's not a trend to follow. It's a business imperative that drives better outcomes for EVERYONE. So why are we backsliding? Are we really okay with this? It's time to stop treating diversity as a "nice to have" and start seeing it as essential to our success. What are YOU doing to keep the conversation going and drive real change in your organization? 🎧 Dive deeper into this crucial topic: https://lnkd.in/gsFBi4mg https://lnkd.in/g5ET-_vX https://lnkd.in/gcvT8bgQ #DiversityMatters #InclusionDrivesSucess #TakeAction
