As a small business owner, when it comes to sustainability efforts, it can feel intimidating not knowing where to start or discouraging to think our small contributions won't make a difference. These feelings may prevent some of us from taking any action at all. I've been there... but thankfully I've found a great solution and am turning over a new leaf for 2025. Quite literally, with Evertreen. Dan Ciufo and his team have simplified reforestation and make it super easy, for large organizations and solopreneurs alike, to make an impact. As a partner, I have the ability to choose a tree-planting project from around the world, gift trees to all new clients and audience members, offer satellite and video updates of our trees, and track our environmental impact. Just this week, my project in Madagascar has offset 45 tonnes of CO2 and has contributed jobs for locals in the community. A focus of mine for next year is to increase my triple bottom line (people, profit and planet) and this is one step in the right direction! #sustainability #reforestation #impact #smallbusiness

As part of its sustainable development strategy, Żywiec Zdrój actively monitors the state of water resources in its catchment areas. Data on rainwater infiltration is used to design long-term programmes aimed at improving water flow and enhancing local biodiversity. Initiatives include 🌼 Flower Meadows, which protects 64 hectares of high mountain meadows, and 🌱 ‘Po Stronie Natury’ (On the Side of Nature), a project that has replenished over 1,000 hectares of forest by planting 8 million trees. 🌲🌳 Żywiec Zdrój also engages in community-focused initiatives. For example, through 🏞️ ‘Łapmy Wodę’ (Catch the Water), the company partners with a local NGO to teach residents of the Silesian Beskids mountain range how to effectively manage rainwater for practical, economic purposes. Similarly, 💧 the Water Fund project sets aside PLN 2 million (€470,000) to develop local water infrastructure in the Jeleśnia commune. 💶 Click here for more biodiversity projects in our sector: https://lnkd.in/eFxqTvkw #NatureGuardians

In 2023, we launched enterprise-wide engagement initiatives for Earth Month (April) and Energy Awareness Month (October). Our Earth Month initiative, aimed at fostering environmental stewardship, included videos and social media engagements that offered tips to go green, polls, volunteering activities, and a spotlight series on employees and customers making a difference. These efforts to increase employee awareness of environmental issues and their roles in them resulted in the following: - 4,340 gallons of water conserved - 482 meatless or vegan meals consumed - 1,225 pieces of litter collected - 69 hours volunteered - 33,392 minutes spent outdoors All of our colleagues have a role to play in protecting the environment and ensuring the communities in which we live and work are thriving now and in the future. We thus aim to build a culture of sustainability for our precious planet. Day 188: Today am invited to give a 15 minutes presentation to a gathering of Local Authorities from 6 Regions of the lake zone. Though my slides are ready, my heart tells me to share the following speech: " I am honored to have the opportunity to speak with you today about our kuniSMART briquettes initiative, a sustainable and impactful project that aims to transform our region's energy landscape while promoting environmental stewardship and community well-being. Environmental Benefits: Our kuniSMART briquettes represent a significant step towards environmental sustainability. By utilizing agricultural waste as the primary raw material, we are reducing the strain on our forests and mitigating the harmful effects of deforestation. In doing so, we are also contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with our collective commitment to combat climate change. Health Impact: The health benefits of our briquettes cannot be understated. Unlike traditional charcoal, kuniSMART briquettes produce significantly less indoor air pollution, thus reducing the risk of respiratory illnesses, especially among women and children who are often the most affected. Economic Opportunities: Our initiative is not just about environmental conservation—it's also about creating sustainable livelihoods for our community members. Through the production and distribution of kuniSMART briquettes, we are generating employment opportunities, particularly for our women and youth. This not only improves individual livelihoods but also contributes to the economic growth of our region. Community Engagement: We have actively engaged with the local community to raise awareness about the benefits of kuniSMART briquettes. Our outreach programs have educated households on the importance of clean energy alternatives and have empowered them to make informed choices for their families' health and well-being. Partnerships and Support: I am pleased to share that we have established strong partnerships with local organizations and businesses that share our vision. However, to further expand our impact, we seek your support and collaboration. Your endorsement and assistance will enable us to reach more households, scale up production, and ultimately make a greater difference in our region. Future Plans: Looking ahead, we envision a future where kuniSMART briquettes are the preferred energy source for households across our region. We plan to expand our production capacity, explore new product innovations, and continue our community outreach efforts to ensure that the benefits of clean energy are accessible to all. In conclusion, I invite you to join us on this journey towards a greener, healthier, and more prosperous future for the greater Lake Victoria region. Together, we can make a lasting impact on our environment, our economy, and the well-being of our community members."
