I feel like the job hunting market and the dating market are facing identical credibility problems! Apps and tools that were supposed to make finding your job/partner more efficient are instead bombarding everyone with junk, bots, and fake profiles/listings, causing horribly arrogant behavior from attractive people/companies, and generating an epidemic of ghosting, breadcrumbing, etc. All of this is even more of a problem in the context of our elevated expectations for both love and work. In response, the hunt for authentic connections increases, and we all get bombarded with networking requests 🤷♀️

Today's lesson: An Expose in Caution and Awareness for job seekers, recruiters and employers in a digital market. Recently I was contacted via my profile on indeed by a, (what I discovered to be a total bogus company and full on con), offering me a remote illustration position for a custom home builder. The first couple of conversations seemed legit enough but as I began to research this company, things just didn't appear to be on the level. Basically the scam sets you up as an employee. They issue a fake e-check for home office supplies, have you sign an employment offer letter, (signature) etc, etc which ultimately gives them access to your bank accounts and personal information. These guys have gone to great effort to create a solid professional and personal back story down to family history and photographs.
