Exciting news! We're thrilled to announce that d’Amico Tankers d.a.c., a fully owned subsidiary of d'Amico International Shipping S.A., has achieved the prestigious Sapphire tier in the 2023 Protecting Blue Whales and Blue Skies initiative! The Protecting Blue Whales and Blue Skies initiative is a voluntary Vessel Speed Reduction (VSR) Program along the California coast. By establishing seasonal slow speed zones, this program not only safeguards endangered whales but also reduces fuel consumption, regional greenhouse gas emissions, and improves air quality. Each year, the Protecting Blue Whales and Blue Skies team independently verifies vessel speeds in VSR zones, assigning recognition levels based on the percentage of vessels traveling at 10 knots or less. This speed reduction significantly mitigates the risk of fatal whale strikes and cuts harmful air pollution. Covering key whale feeding and migration seasons from mid-May to December, the program operates in two regions: along the Southern California coast and outside the San Francisco Bay Area. Awards are presented in three tiers: Sapphire (85-100% compliance), Gold (60%-84%), and Blue Sky (35%-59%).  Achieving the Sapphire tier underscores our unwavering commitment to sustainable shipping practices. 💧 #WorldWaterDay, every day, CLIA member cruise lines acknowledge the importance of water as a valuable resource. 🚰 CLIA member lines produce up to 90% of fresh water onboard. To avoid having to take on freshwater in ports, especially in areas where there are water shortages, many ships are equipped with their own onboard reverse osmosis desalinisation systems which transform sea water to potable water. ⭐ All new ships across the CLIA cruise line member fleet are specified to be built with state-of-the art Advanced Wastewater Treatment facilities that rival many land-based systems. 📉 CLIA members use various techniques to minimise onboard water use, such as repurposing condensation produced by air-conditioning for use in systems that do not require potable water, including flushing toilets, doing laundry, and washing the open deck. 🚿 Active water conservation efforts also include reduced-flow shower heads and vacuum systems for toilets, and upgrading dishwashers and laundry equipment for water efficiency, as people do in their homes. 👩✈️ Crew are continually trained to conserve water, and guests are encouraged to save water by, for instance, reusing towels and linens. 🛳️ #WeAreCruise #WaterForPeace
