Compulsory National Service - another brilliant idea from the party which gave us Liz Truss. I honestly wonder who came up with this barking idea and when - last night perhaps in a desperate attempt to steal the Sunday Morning headlines. If the Tories cared so much about the UK's security why have they presided over some of the deepest defence cuts this country has suffered in the last 50-years. What really pisses me off is Cabinet Ministers like James Cleverly (known as not so Cleverly within the Tory party apparently) saying stuff like: "I want to see young people come out of their bubble". What does that mean? The logistics of compulsory National Service just wouldn't work. There are around 800,000 18-year-olds in the UK today and under the Tories scheme there will be 30,000 military vacancies up for grab. So where would these eager volunteers be trained and for how long, and then what? Remember the UK's armed forces are composed of around 130,000 personnel. So under this scheme, every 12 months the Army, the RAF and the Royal Navy's training units will have to accommodate, clothe, feed, pay and train an additional 30,000 personnel. Where is this going to take place? Military training takes around six months. What happens once that has been completed? Do you insert them into regular Army, RAF and RN units for six months - imagine the disruption. I think the youth of today are fantastic on the whole. I've seen 18-year-olds fight and die in Afghanistan. I've seen terrified soldiers fresh out of training search for IEDs in Helmand. I've visited young wounded soldiers in hospital recovering from appalling injuries which may never fully heal, and all without complaint. As a soldier, I trained Parachute Regiment recruits and it was abundantly clear to even then that only those who really wanted to be in the Army had a chance of succeeding. Even after recruits have completed their training it took many more months serving in a regular unit before they probably felt fully trained. For technical units the training can take up to a year. So where is the benefit? There is absolutely no point in attempting to push someone into military training who doesn't want to be there. I'd much prefer it the Tories focussed their attention on policies which actually improved the lives or ordinary people, such as ensuring the water we drink isn't contaminated or that the trains ran on time or our roads were not lethal pot-hole ridden death traps. This sounds to me like the death rattle of a party devoid of ideas and leadership rather than any workable policy.

Helpful Tip: In order to receive SIV Chief of Mission approval or denial, one step is to have both the signatory on the LOR and HR letters reply to an email asking for verification from the COM office. If you are still waiting on a COM decision chances are high the signatory on the LOR and HR letters did not send an email back to the COM office for verification. The principal applicant must contact the signatory on these letters and ask them to reply to the COM office. Ask them to locate the email, maybe it’s in the junk or spam folder still. If the LOR and HR letters have old emails (like one with a .af email address or an active duty email address when the person has left the military) then the principal applicant must obtain a current email for these supervisors so the COM office can communicate with them.

1,387 Military Recruits Graduate: Staff Reporter The Ministry of Defence today held the graduation ceremony for its 17th recruit intake, with a total of 1,387 recruits graduating after beginning their training in December 2023. Unfortunately, three recruits passed away during the course of their training. This was revealed by the Minister of Defence, Frans Kapofi, who said the journey of the graduating recruits was not easy. Some were disqualified during the initial screening, while 40 recruits either voluntarily opted out or were disqualified during the final screening at the Namibian Defence Force Training Establishment (NDFTE). * * --- “It is heartening for our government, and especially for the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs, that the 17th Recruit Training has successfully come to an end. The defence of our country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty is paramount and requires all our nationals to participate in various ways. Businesspeople and all taxpayers who generate revenues for our government to provide public goods, as well as patriotic nationals who voluntarily offer advice on how our country should be defended, are as important as the trained soldiers. What sets soldiers apart, however, is the fact that they must be rigorously trained, as their calling is to act extraordinarily in difficult situations and conditions where their own lives may be at stake. This is why it is an honour to serve in the national uniform and stand tall as the pride of the nation,” Kapofi said. He added that the defence ministry remains concerned about conflicts elsewhere in the world, as they have ramifications for our country. “The Russia-Ukraine conflict, instabilities in the Middle East, and civil unrest in some parts of the African continent are stark reminders that we must, by all means, jealously guard the peace we have in our country,” Kapofi said. Labour need to fund, promote and make compulsory CCF training for all schools in the UK at Y9 onwards. The Education minister talks a good game about leveling up. However, all good private schools have a CCF provision which feeds students and talent into our forces. The state sector can easily have the same, but where is the drive? Just provide the program and funding to get it working and you will have your troops. Students just need to realise what they can do in the military? https://lnkd.in/eTKqP_K3

I thought it would be “fun” to track and share the status of my job searching, as I transition out of the military. This chart below outlines my efforts from December 2023 until today... Is this about the average for Emergency Management Job Seekers? 10 of those positions were Federal; 5 Private Industry; 5 City/County/State. #EmergencyManagement #veteran #EMJobs

The Military Sealift Command (MSC) is launching a strategic initiative to address critical staffing shortages that have resulted in the sidelining of 17 ships, impacting operational capabilities. With nearly 300,000 unfilled positions in the maritime sector, MSC recognizes the urgent need to enhance mariner recruitment and retention. The command plans to focus on offering consistent work schedules and competitive compensation to improve work-life balance for mariners. This approach is essential for attracting skilled professionals to a workforce that has struggled to remain competitive in recent years. Rear Admiral Phillip Sobeck outlined that by sidelining 17 ships, MSC can reassign about 800 mariners to higher-priority vessels. This will ensure that critical ships, such as fleet replenishment oilers and ammunition carriers, are fully manned and operational. The goal is to achieve a more sustainable staffing model that enhances the readiness and effectiveness of the logistics fleet. By prioritizing workforce conditions and advocating for pay reforms, MSC is not only working to rebuild trust with mariners but also aiming to enhance the overall quality of service provided. This initiative is crucial for maintaining national security, as a well-staffed and operationally ready maritime force is vital for the U.S. military’s strategic objectives. The success of this initiative could set a precedent for how the military approaches workforce challenges in the future. In summary, the MSC's proactive measures to improve recruitment and retention will help ensure that the US Navy remains capable and prepared to meet emerging challenges. #MilitarySealiftCommand #MaritimeJobs #WorkforceDevelopment #NationalSecurity #Recruitment #Retention #Logistics #MilitaryReadiness #MarinerTrust If you found this post insightful, sparked a new idea, or presented valuable advice, please select 💡!
