Take a first look at Lily Pad Park! Creekland Village's first large gathering space coming late 2025. 🐢 A prominently placed covered pavilion that will seat 50 will include picnic tables, an open kitchen with grilling space, and a countertop bar with sink, offering residents a place to entertain and socialize in a relaxed setting. Spilling out from the pavilion will be a series of lily pad decks that terrace down to an open expanse of green lawn set along the edge of Turtle Cove. Framing this flex lawn will be a generous buffer of reforestation/trees. Fantastic to see new parklets cropping up in Fitzroy, years after the pandemic. This one's a solid progression on the hasty ones of 2021, for three reasons: - high quality finishes - real trees - very welcoming to sit in for free when the restaurant is closed. Amazing work by Rocco's, here on Gertrude St. So many dining spaces instead of storage for one private car. I see a few future frontiers for parklet programs: - De- paving these spots pre-build, and doing the planting in-ground, for proper tree growth - Adding WSUD (stormwater interception) to help avoid localised flooding in cloudbursts - Setting permit prices right to encourage uptake (we're so generous to cars, by comparison) - Adding a splash of understorey planting for pollinators and native birds. #urbandesign #parking #placemaking Nice work Yarra City Council!
