Dear Agencies… Sam Altman says we have to change quickly… His view: in 5 years ‘95% of what marketers use agencies, strategists, and creative professionals for will easily, nearly instantly, and at almost no cost be handled by the AI’. Big call… But there’s a lot more nuance to it than that. AI won’t simply replace agencies, strategists and creative professionals… It won’t simply “reduce” workload — that’s the wrong way of looking at things. Instead, we must see it as reshaping the way agencies operate. That means creating more room for the work that an agency specialises in, such as strategic thinking, creative innovation, and commercial insight. The real impact? AI handles the repetitive, freeing agency teams to focus on billable tasks that the client requires to drive growth. It’s a shift that makes agencies more valuable to clients, not just more efficient. In truth, the best agencies do this already… Operating as a consultative partner to their clients, not just a safe pair of hands. The time is now for agencies to operate as the brain for their clients… Spotting risks and opportunities earlier and presenting skilful strategies to avoid or capture them.
