GOOD BUSINESS REPUTATION "...I have tried to pursue the policy of acting in a business-like prompt way especially when we are able to pay. I wish you would take up all these small accounts that are overdue and settle them. It is doubly necessary that an institution that depends for its living on begging money should keep a good business reputation. It is much more necessary than for an institution doing a strictly commercial business. It does not take long for a rumor to get circulated in any community to the effect that we are not businesslike and this hurts us in getting funds. For all these reasons it is very necessary that all the matters I am referring to in this letter be carefully, systematically and promptly attended to in your office. Some of the letters regarding the bills that I refer to I enclose.”– Booker T. Washington, “February 13, 1915”

We were blessed to have Ron Brooks speak on "strategic generosity" to our community this past Wednesday. We'd love to share the main premise of his presentation and encourage you during this holiday season. Traditional charity, while well-intentioned, often falls short due to inefficiencies and a lack of connection between donors and recipients. Many initiatives focus on immediate relief, but inadvertently harm local economies by undermining farmers and businesses. Additionally, non-profits often prioritize appealing to donors over creating sustainable, long-term solutions, perpetuating dependency rather than empowerment. To resolve these issues, we can embrace strategic generosity, focusing on sustainable, impactful giving. Supporting programs that empower communities—like vocational training or local business development—creates lasting change. Aligning our skills and values with our giving, such as mentoring or offering professional expertise, ensures our contributions make a meaningful difference. Advent, a season of reflection and preparation, is an ideal time to practice intentional generosity. Instead of only donating money, consider personal actions like mentoring someone in need or involving your family in thoughtful giving. By doing so, we embody the spirit of Advent, offering hope and dignity while creating lasting impact. If you'd like to learn more about this concept and concrete steps on how to apply it, sign up for our monthly newsletter. We will be sending out more details of the presentation, and would love to share more detailed insights with you. Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/gsd3G9VF
