Lovely to host Consumer NZ earlier today, and give them a tour of research and testing labs. It was great to hear about their priorities, and the close alignment that exists between our two organisations in terms of our focus on delivering better outcomes for New Zealand consumers.

❗ Product safety should not be the responsibility of consumers ❗ In a new market check, OCU - one of the Spanish consumer organisations member of the BEUC network, found that non-approved child car seats are sold on popular online marketplaces. Some of them even look like elaborated but comfy pillows to envelop your kids 🫣 . Luckily, new EU rules for product safety will soon start to apply and bring more powers to market surveillance authorities. For more info about OCU findings, have a look 👇 https://lnkd.in/eH_5jiWM

What did I learn from last week’s Agoria networking event on Digital Product Passports (DPPs)? Plenty. But what stood out was a comparison of the DPP to a "beautiful monster" made by Eduard Wagner — it can seem intimidating but offers many opportunities for businesses 🙌 When viewed from a value perspective, there are three DPP archetypes (according to Giovanna Sauve): 1️⃣ Compliance and obligation reporting. Primarily for meeting regulations and reducing risks. 2️⃣ Operational efficiency improvements. Helps businesses save costs and improve processes. 3️⃣ Value-creating digital services and circular business models. Enables innovative services and sustainable business models, creating value beyond profit. The biggest value lies in this last third archetype. Although many companies see DPPs as a burden and cost, they can enhance products with meaningful services and improve customer experience. Additionally, they ensure companies will be ready to comply with future regulations (around 2027). 💙 If your products fall into the categories covered by DPPs and you’re unsure where to start, we have a solution just for you: https://lnkd.in/gyxxdAaq Also, wanted to thank all the speakers who brought up so many interesting discussions and got us talking way after the event was over Kenneth Vanhecke, Dimitri Van Nuland, Cyrille Regardin, Jeroen Raeijmaekers. And of course, the event would not even be possible without Els Fonteyne and Mira Tayah. #digitalproductpassport #dpp #twintag #circulareconomy #ce

It is a shameful and cruel decision by zong company to raise the rate of my 5 package from rs 1600 to rs 3600. This increase is not only unjustified but also synonymous with cheating on customers, who are already facing financial difficulties. Zong company's move clearly shows that there is no importance for them for the welfare or economic conditions, and they are returning to the customers just to increase their profits. The increase of rs 1600 to rs 3600 is abusive with consumers. Such indifference and ruthlessness from the zong company is proof that they have nothing to do with the problems of the public. What is the justification for doubling the prices when there was no significant improvement in the quality of the service? This decision is actually consumer exploitation, and the company's attitude is unacceptable. The zong company should remember that customers can spend without them, and such actions are hurting the company's trust and credibility. If zong does not withdraw this unfair add as soon as possible, it can be harmful to his business. Government and regulatory institutions should immediately take steps against this injustice so that consumer rights are protected and companies cannot return to the public by raising prices without any reason. #Zongcompany Zong CMPak Ltd Zong Zong Business Solutions Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA)

So here I am, being interviewed by TVB (Television Broadcasts Limited), one of Hong Kong's leading English news stations, about the recent changes to the spirits duty policy, which took effect last week. While I did my best to tread carefully, I felt it was important to highlight that the hype surrounding this announcement may not translate into real benefits for #HongKong's nightlife. For a quick overview: 𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟲𝘁𝗵, any spirit imported into Hong Kong incurred a 100% tax on its purchase price. For instance, when you bought a bottle of whisky for US$100, you need to pay the Hong Kong government 𝗨𝗦$𝟭𝟬𝟬 𝗱𝘂𝘁𝘆 👎 when you brought it into Hong Kong. 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟲𝘁𝗵, the same rule will continue to apply to all spirits that have a declared purchase value of USD25 or under - approx. 85% of all imports. For the spirits imported above that value, they will now be hsubjected to a 10% tax of the total value above US$25 (HK$200). Therefore the tax on that US$100 bottle of whisky now only require 𝗨𝗦$𝟯𝟮.𝟱𝟬 𝗱𝘂𝘁𝘆🎉 So yes, this is pretty great for high value bottles, BUT, it don't affect the majority of bottles being consumed in this country - this reduction will mostly benefit high net worth individuals only. Rather than being appearing on TV and talking about this, I'd much rather industry professionals be sought out by the policy makers. It does seem that a lot of government decisions in Hong Kong are made by people disconnected from the consequences. (Like road markings on roundabouts... but that's another story!) If anyone from the relevant government department is reading this, here are my top six suggestions for revitalizing Hong Kong's night time economy: 1) 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗧𝗥 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀: Operate until at least 3 AM on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays to help people get home easily. 2) 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗔𝗹 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗼 𝗗𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: Encourage street dining by allowing bars to apply for licenses to use public areas, similar to practices in many global cities. 3) 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴: Remove bureaucratic hurdles around restaurant and liquor licensing to modernize and rationalize the process. 4) 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗔𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗵𝗼𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀: Mandate that all alcohol retailers have a liquor license and a designated responsible person to reduce underage purchases and support bars and restaurants. 5) 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘀: Introduce a rent cap for landlords, such as a percentage of property value, to curb price gouging. 6) 𝗗𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘀: Require a "DUTY PAID" stamp on bottles to minimize parallel trading and counterfeit products. I know it was a long one... but if you got to the end, I'd would love to hear your thoughts! #HongKong #SpiritsDuty #PublicPolicy #AlFrescoDining #SupportLocalBusinesses #TVB #drinks99 #SustainableNightlife https://lnkd.in/g3ddZ7VH
