CAN OUR ‘LITTLE CHILD’ OVERCOME NEGATIVE PARENT PROGRAMMING ? And without years of therapy in adult life that offer no guarantee of success? I believe it’s possible. Even the ‘best’ of parents can have weak moments (often repeated )that can mark a child for life. If their behaviour was chronic it can be toxic for our self-esteem. If they shouted and belittled us If they said we would never be any good If they said we would never succeed If they criticised or compared us unfavourably with others. If they used guilt If they blamed us for outcomes which were not at all our fault Solutions to begin : Accept that our parents were often under perhaps terrible pressure themselves and had to deal with their own ‘demons’. Forgive them. Define who we really are now as adults : our values, where we want to go in both our personal and professional lives. Take an inventory of our values and strengths. List the achievements we are proud of in our personal and professional lives. Identify the negative programming they have left us with, reassess objectively and reprogramme positively Look into Transactional Analysis. It will explain a lot . AND GET ON WITH ACHIEVING OUR FULL POTENTIAL IN BOTH OUR PERSONAL AND PRIVATE LIVES

The US Dept. of Education recently released an important document clarifying the MYTHS and FACTS surrounding the use of assistive technology for students with disabilities. I talked with Glenna Gallo, who is the Assistant Secretary of the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, about what some misconceptions are, how they impact children, and what can be done to correct them. It's a discussion for parents, teachers, administrators, and others - and one that ranged from informative to inspiring. LISTEN HERE: https://lnkd.in/e3hGXwDB #ConnectedNation
