After the Ourspace chapter closed, it took me a while to find what I was looking for next. Shutting down my startup was the most introspective I've ever been about my career. I thought a lot about what I wanted to opt into, and more importantly what I wanted to opt out of. Circuit is the outlier I was looking for - bootstrapped, profitable, intentionally small, and exciting yet sustainable growth. Equally as important, I was looking for a place that's as intentional about *how* they work as *what* they work on. And when I say intentional, I mean it: We don't use Slack, OKRs, or scrum. And there are very, very few meetings. All of this is by careful design. And takes immense courage to not simply mirror "normal" ways of working just because everyone else is doing it. It's this kind of nonconformity that got me especially excited about working with Jack Underwood and the team at Circuit. Onward!
We're absolutely delighted to announce that Megan Murphy has joined the Circuit Team! Great to have you on board, Megan. 🎉

If you are in the powersports industry and you aren't a member of your state dealer association, then these are the kinds of things you are missing out on. The Texas Motorcycle Dealers Association's legal counsel recently reviewed the revised Polaris Inc. dealer agreement. She was able to highlight all of the year over year changes in the new document, as well as identifying many sections of the agreement that violate TX state franchise laws. Since I've now had the opportunity to talk to attorneys in a dozen states, and been made aware of multiple issues across the country, here are some critical things dealers should be aware of. - Franchise law varies by state. Interestingly, I've found many of the laws were essentially built off those of other states (driven by larger auto associations defining best practices), so there is a lot of commonality. - While dealers believe that OEs will abide by each state's franchise laws, that is not the case. I'm now aware of very specific violations occurring in at least 8 states. In many cases, a vendor will only comply with state laws when called out to do so. Ignorance is a vendor's best tool when it comes to overreach. Every dealer should take the time to read and understand your region's laws. - In many states, dealer agreement run in perpetuity. The expiration date and renewal dates are often just meaningless numbers. In many states, in order for a vendor to terminate a dealer, they must make that case before a state motor vehicle board, and many of those hold the vendors to a higher standard than they hold themselves. Recent vendor overreach has pushed many dealers to the breaking point, and dealers in many states are pushing back to restore parity on the playing field. If you have a state dealer association, then support it. And, if you are not a member of the National Powersports Dealer Association, then please consider joining. While we are unable to influence state law, we are in the process of building a framework to help progressive dealers stand up associations in all 50 states. If we don't stand up against the bad actors, they will continue to take advantage of dealers. #TMDA #NPDA #Powersports #DealerAssocation #Franchise #DealerAgreement
