“Nice to meet you Mr. Ambassador!” “New president in the US – what now?” This was the main theme when Boyden Denmark invited a group of top executives in both Aarhus and Copenhagen to two Boyden Executive briefings this week. The Danish Ambassador in Washington, Jesper Møller Sørensen, shared his insights on what to expect with Donald Trump taking office in January 2025. Key themes included tariffs, energy politics, and global security issues, all in relation to how these themes are likely to impact Danish businesses. A huge thanks to our clients Systematic A/S and HAY for hosting these events, and a special thanks to Michael Holm, Andreas Steenberg, Nikolaj Bramsen and Jesper Brøndum Petersen. #Boydensearch #theboydenmarkteam

🇩🇰 From our colleagues in Rud Pedersen Denmark: Crucial themes for Danish companies in the EU in the next 5 years 🇪🇺 🗳 With only a few days until the European Parliament elections, our colleagues at Rud Pedersen in Copenhagen have highlighted the areas they believe Danish companies should keep a special eye on in the EU over the next 5 years. Recently, they delved into the question: 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆? ➡ After the Corona pandemic and the war in Ukraine, European leaders are preoccupied with strengthening Europe's strategic independence and industry. In concrete terms, this means that in the coming years, the EU will identify the most important critical industries in Europe and how to support them in the future. 🚨 It is politically untenable that Europe cannot produce its own protective equipment when the crisis hits. And in the same way, it will be unthinkable in the future that the critical hardware for our industry can only come from outside Europe. When, for example, China provides direct support for the export of energy technology to Europe, and the United States implements high import tariffs, Europe must follow suit in order to maintain its own competitiveness. 🛡 ⛽ 💊 📡 🛣 ➡ Therefore, Rud Pedersen Denmark believes that the defence, energy, health, telecommunications and transport industries in particular will experience much greater political attention in the coming years. This can create enormous opportunities for companies through more favourable conditions, but it can also bring a number of new challenges. If you are interested in hearing more about this development and how it affects European businesses, feel free to reach out to Rud Pedersen Denmark's Head of Geopolitical and EU Affairs Lukas A. Lausen, or any of our other colleagues in our 18 offices in European capitals.

🎙️ “Can joint industry initiatives help relaunch competitiveness?" This was the question from EUROPEN's Secretary General Francesca Siciliano Stevens to the American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union (AmCham EU)'s Policy Director Thibaut L'Ortye during our first-of-its-kind LinkedIn Live event. 🔍 The answer is clear: These initiatives have helped putting the topic back on the EU political agenda. Now we’ll have to see how they will be translated into concrete measures. More on joint initiatives & competitiveness 👇 https://lnkd.in/eXWpVKSs #RelaunchCompetitiveness #OpportunityEurope

#voltinthepress 42/2024 🇪🇺 This week from Germany, the Netherlands and Italy - plus Bulgaria in the collage 🗞 🇪🇺 🇩🇪 In the FRANCE 24 show Talking Europe with the leading question “China hits back at EU over electric car tariffs: How bad could the trade dispute get?” Armen Georgian talked with Slovak MEP Katarina Roth Nevedalova and Damian Boeselager, MEP for Volt Deutschland. The Chinese government says it is investigating some EU imports, such as pork or dairy products, from countries including Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany, as well as brandy and wine imports from France. That has sparked concerns of possible challenges at the World Trade Organization, and a worsening dispute between Brussels and Beijing. Damian commented that he wants to diversify trade relations and reduce planning uncertainties for the European automotive industry. https://lnkd.in/dtx94Khz 🇳🇱 Leader of Volt Nederland in the House of Representatives Laurens Dassen argues via a motion for a treaty amendment of the European Union, reports the BNR Nieuwsradio. This should make the Union “more effective and decisive” in tackling the major challenges of our time. With a “new” treaty, he hopes to put an end to the veto - “so Orbán no longer blocks every decision” - and the constant moves between Strasbourg and Brussels. In addition, as far as he is concerned, the European Parliament should be given the right of initiative. “As far as we are concerned, it is high time to take a step forward.”, says Laurens. https://lnkd.in/dneh3HEE 🇮🇹 Volt Italia will run with four candidates in the list “Civics with De Pascale for President” for the Nov 17/18th Emilia-Romagna regional election. Silvia Panini will be the candidate for Modena, the others will compete in Bologna, Reggio Emilia and Piacenza. "Among the priorities that I would like to push forward are, first of all, the popular initiative bill drafted by Volt Emilia-Romagna, to establish the figure of the basic psychologist in the regional health system; also the extension and strengthening of the school offer for sexual and affective education starting from nursery schools and of the offer of information outside the school, expanding its translation and accessibility.”, explains Silvia. https://lnkd.in/d_UKD354

The European Union is ready to place new tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles. Beijing is preparing its response. The outcome shows us again that geopolitical tensions are on the rise and governments and businesses must understand trade and supply chain dependencies to maintain their welfare competitiveness. With a focus on the EU’s dependencies on critical minerals essential in electric vehicles and other green technologies, I had the pleasure of speaking to Francesca Ghiretti on her wonderful podcast, 'Geoeconomic Competition'. My assessment is that EU members states are not very dependent on trade with China, but when it comes to green supply chains, there are critical dependencies that demand urgent attention. China will remain a big part of the EU’s green transition, but it is a strategic risk to maintain such hyper-supply concentrations in critical industries. The EU - and particularly the Nordic region - has the resources and technologies to roll back these dependencies, but only if political and corporate leaders recognise and invest in this potential. 🔄For Brazil, EU-Mercosur deal status remains unchanged Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira on Wednesday told lawmakers at the House Foreign Affairs Committee that the conditions for concluding a free-trade deal between the European Union and Mercosur (the trade alliance between Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay) remain “similar” to last year even after the recent EU Parliament election. Far-right parties, which have strongly opposed a deal with Mercosur to seize momentum from recent protests staged by European farmers, have made important strides in the European Parliament. And even if the body is rather powerless, the recent scores send a loud message. “I believe we are close, and we managed to overcome some hardships … There is goodwill to conclude the agreement; I believe we can do it this year,” he said. 🔗Read more in our full article by Cedê Silva here 👇 https://lnkd.in/dAEjktcX #Europe #Mercosur #Trade
