https://lnkd.in/g7z6mQZE I am happy that SFPD has these new tools, but from the article's statements about the requirements, it sounds like what they need is persistent situational awareness that could be more efficiently provided by an aircraft with wide area motion imagery. Current electric multi-rotors do not have the endurance or ruggedness to have the stamina for this maritime environment for any logical sustainment. Maybe Logos Technologies could help? or BAE Systems? The challenge in the SFO AOR is the weather - then operationally you have the tall buildings which equate to longer focal lengths and better stability for imaging sensors.

While FPV operators need sharp reflexes and weeks of training and practice, Bolt-M removes the need for a skilled operator with a point-and-click interface to select the target. An AI pilot does all the work. (You could argue whether it even counts as FPV). Once locked on, Bolt-M will continue automatically to the target even if communications are lost, giving it a high degree of immunity to electronic warfare.

The surge in AI warfare technologies has catalysed an arms race, drawing in Silicon Valley giants and national militaries worldwide. With the U.S. military alone investing over $1.8 billion in AI for 2024, the stakes are high. Yet, the rapid deployment of these systems often outpaces the establishment of robust regulatory frameworks, leading to unpredictable and ethically fraught situations. The spectre of autonomous warfare challenges our fundamental perceptions of control and accountability in conflict, echoing Oppenheimer's own reflections on the profound responsibilities accompanying technological power. #AI #Tech #Drones

As with all tech AI will undoubtedly find its way in the theatre of war at some point. There are already movies about this, we've watched the matrix, Terminator and a whole lot more but it is right here on our door step. The first step wont be robots however, it'll be drones, the small kind, precise enough to eliminate 1 person at a time and they won't need to be manned by anyone. The Pentagon plans to spend $1bn by 2025 on its Replicator Initiative, which aims to develop swarms of unmanned combat drones that will use artificial intelligence to seek out threats. That's just one AI initiative in war worth just a billion, and far more are on the horizon such as unmanned aircraft and submarines awaiting valuation of over $10bn. Let's just say if aliens decide to invade in the next 10 years they'll have a slightly harder time taking our cattle! https://lnkd.in/g55AqAPN

**Botwars Ascendance: The Dawn of Autonomous Warfare and Its Implications for the Future**As the digital revolution continues to reshape industries across the globe, one of the most profound—and potentially disruptive—developments is taking place in the realm of military technology. The concept of autonomous warfare, often referred to as "Botwars Ascendance," represents a significant leap forward in how conflicts are waged, bringing both unprecedented opportunities and daunting challenges.### The Evolution of Autonomous CombatThe journey to autonomous warfare has been a gradual but deliberate one. Initially, robotics in the military focused on support roles—logistics, surveillance, and reconnaissance. These early systems were limited in capability, designed to reduce human exposure to danger rather than replace soldiers outright. However, advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning have accelerated the evolution of these systems, enabling them to take on more complex and lethal roles.Today, autonomous combat systems are no longer a distant possibility; they are a present reality. These systems can identify, target, and engage adversaries with minimal human intervention, operating in environments that would be too hazardous for human soldiers. The ability to deploy robots in swarms, coordinating attacks with precision and speed, presents a new kind of warfare that traditional defense strategies may not be equipped to handle.
