As someone who’s been both a small business owner and a police officer, I’ve seen firsthand how damaging crime can be. The good news is, we don’t have to live like this. Won’t be long now until we hit the 250 mark! 🤩 243 businesses (and counting) across #Bournemouth and #Poole have become #UKPAC members and united under the new conurbation-wide Business Crime Reduction Partnership ‘Against Business Crime’. By joining together, we’re using a wealth of shared data, intelligence and better incident reporting to tackle anti-social behaviour and business crime within #BCP. The BCRP has been formed by three of the area’s Business Improvement Districts (Poole BID, Bournemouth Town Centre BID & Bournemouth Coastal Bid BID) with the support of UK-PAC, Dorset Police, Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner and BCP Council. It promises to be a game-changer in tackling rising levels of theft, verbal and physical abuse and anti-social behaviour – all key issues impacting local businesses which are going significantly under-reported due to frustration with a perceived lack of response. Downtown Dallas has come a long way since the late 1990s, when just a few hundred people called the city center home. Billions of dollars in private and public investments have fueled a historic transformation, with Downtown Dallas, Inc. members and partners leading the charge. Today, we have 15,000 residents living in neighborhoods including the East Quarter, West End, Arts District, Farmers Market, and Main Street district. We have exceptional restaurants, thriving arts and entertainment, and convention business so successful that we are building a whole new Downtown convention center just to keep up with demand. As The Dallas Morning News notes in an editorial today, a recent spate of crime highlights the need for increased Dallas Police Department presence in Downtown, something DDI's Board of Directors has advocated for in recent years. In the coming years, we will opening our doors to the FIFA World Cup 2026™ - Canada, Mexico and the United States. Millions of conventioneers will visit our new Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas, set to open by the end of the decade. We will ensure everyone who visits Downtown feels safe and welcome. Our police officers do heroic work every day in all corners of our city. They should not be called on to solve every societal challenge. Following recent press coverage, I couldn't be more encouraged by the new government's commitment to enhancing community safety through investment in community policing, upgraded street lighting, and revitalising public spaces. Their vision paves the way for enhanced collaboration between our industry, local authorities, and community stakeholders, ensuring public safety remains a top priority. At Mitie, we own solid relationships with all our stakeholders, and we have a transparent approach to data sharing. But the wider community needs to come together to build improved communication channels. Making valuable intelligence, such as crime trends and emerging security threats more accessible will enable us to proactively identify and address potential risks. Ultimately leading to improved response strategies across the board. And it shouldn’t stop there, collaborative training programmes will provide frontline colleagues with the essential skills to effectively support the work of the police. Training sessions focused on emergency response, conflict resolution, and crime prevention will play a vital role in strengthening our combined security efforts. With the proper skill development approach, private security can do more to meaningfully support law enforcement and to build and grow those all-important relationships with local communities. We’re committed to taking action and playing a significant role in this collaborative approach to building safer environments for everyone. O2X’s Program Manager Jonathan Bachant, serving the United States Marshals Service, has received the ‘Exemplary Contractor Support Award’ - presented once annually to a contractor support staff member who has displayed exemplary support services to the Agency. After the award was presented, we caught up with Jonathan to inquire on his keys to success in running the program.
