𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗔 𝘁𝘄𝗼-𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁! Mentoring is about more than giving guidance—it’s a mutual journey of learning and growth. Through my roles as a mentor with the AREF (The Association of Real Estate Funds) / CREFC Europe Mentorship Scheme and CIBSE Mentoring, as well as a mentee with the ULI Europe Mentorship Programme, I’ve seen firsthand how impactful these relationships can be, both for the mentee and the mentor. Here’s my key insights: ✅ 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲. Most mentees don’t need ready-made solutions; they need clarity. Active listening empowers them to unlock their own potential. ✅ 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Encouraging mentees to discover their path is far more impactful than prescribing one. ✅ 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆-𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴. In real estate, mentoring isn’t just personal—it builds the next wave of leaders prepared to tackle ESG, sustainability, and innovation challenges. Why become a mentor? Sharing your knowledge and experiences not only contributes to someone else's success but also enhances your leadership skills and fosters a valuable exchange of ideas. For mentees, mentorship offers invaluable guidance, tailored advice, and opportunities to expand your professional network. 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲—𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲. 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴? I just finished speaking with Henry Stewart Talks about mentoring - What it is, what it isn't, and how it should be used for teaching and learning. Much of what we discussed is covered in the book The Mentorship Edge. Thank you Karina Koch, Gal Lahav and Neil Bradman! Hierarchical and Lateral Mentoring™ are both ways we can engage in mentoring, and are both covered in the book. Brian Neill Wiley #thementorshipedge #mentor #thementorproject Some quick tips: Mentoring is - a generative, intrinsically motivated, meaningfully connected, trusting relationship with a goal. Mentoring isn't - extrinsically motivated (if you are being paid you are not a mentor), a coach, a sponsor, or an advisor Can you be a mentor AND the others...Yes. But...there are clearly defined ways in which this happens. For more details, you can explore The Mentorship Edge!

From being a curious student to now coaching the next generation, my experience with Future Frontiers has been nothing short of magical. 🚀 I was once in those same seats, wide-eyed and eager, soaking up every word during my Future Frontiers sessions. The programme ignited my passion, expanded my horizons, and set me on a path of growth. And now? Well, I’m thrilled to be on the other side - as a coach! Mentorship is one of the more effective ways of growing as a professional and as a leader. Nomzamo Radebe, Chief Operating Officer of SA Corporate Real Estate Fund said whether in a career setting, academic environment, or personal development context, effective mentorship can be a transformative experience, enriching both the mentor and mentee through collaboration and shared learning. She said mentors may change as one transitions through life. To identify a suitable mentor, it is important to identify the objectives that one wishes to achieve through mentorship. One can approach a mentor directly and joining a mentorship program that seeks to match mentors and mentees may be helpful. It is also important to remain open minded that a mentor may present himself/herself unexpectedly. In her career spanning over 25 years, Nomzamo has benefitted from mentors who have provided guidance, support, and wisdom. She says mentorship could happen in a formal setting or it could be the impact of once-off discussions with certain individuals that will have an influence over a lifetime. Nomzamo has found these crucial conversations to be lasting ‘nuggets’ of wisdom to refer to as she formulates approaches to life. A seasoned executive and businesswoman, Nomzamo was the Chief Executive Officer of Excellerate JHI before joining SA Corporate. She has worked for companies including Pareto Limited, Sasol and KPMG. #WomenInRealEstate #RealEstateSuccess #WomenInProperty #RealEstateEmpowerment

You're never too old to become a mentee! 🌱 No matter how experienced or accomplished you are, there's always room to grow. In fact, mentoring as a seasoned professional can unlock new perspectives and skills, help you stay ahead in a fast-evolving world, and even reignite your passion for what you do. What’s even more exciting? Not all mentors have to be decades more experienced. Peer mentoring, where your mentor is closer to your level or background, brings fresh ideas, contemporary insights, and a chance to build a supportive, growth-oriented network. It’s about exchanging knowledge, challenging assumptions, and mutual growth. 📈 Being open to mentorship at any stage is a superpower💡 What new horizons could you explore as a mentee? ✨ Register to become a mentee and commit to the life-long learning: https://lnkd.in/dvypy8mJ #LifelongLearning #MentorshipMatters #GrowthMindset #PeerMentoring Sources: Albert Einstein and Maria Skłodowska-Curie by the Lémac lake on 1925. Imagine having a personal career GPS. That's what mentorship offers. Mentorship is the unsung hero of professional development for both students and working professionals. For students, mentors are the bridge between academic theory and real-world application. They provide insights no textbook can offer, helping navigate the often murky waters of career choices and industry expectations. For working professionals, mentors are the secret weapon in a rapidly evolving job market. They're your guide through career crossroads, offering perspectives that can transform challenges into opportunities. But here's the kicker: mentorship isn't just about receiving advice. It's a two-way street that fosters growth for both parties. As a mentee, you gain wisdom and guidance. As a mentor, you sharpen your leadership skills and gain fresh perspectives. The best mentors don't just share knowledge; they challenge you, expand your network, and help you see your potential through a new lens. So, whether you're a student planning your first career move or a professional eyeing that next big step, don't wait for a mentor to find you. Seek them out actively. Your future self will thank you for this investment. Remember: In the game of career growth, mentorship isn't just a nice-to-have. It's a game-changer. #MentorshipMatters #CareerGrowth #ProfessionalDevelopment
