This month, we celebrate the strength and resilience of those in recovery. 🏠 Recovery homes play a crucial role in providing a safe and supportive environment for individuals on their journey to sobriety. However, did you know that many recovery homes in residential neighborhoods face challenges due to outdated zoning policies? Individuals in recovery are covered under the protected class of disability, and may request reasonable accommodations that are needed to use and enjoy their housing. An example of this could include a recovery home that needs a change in zoning policy to locate a home for unrelated individuals in recovery in a residential neighborhood. Denying this request is not just a policy issue—it’s discriminatory. Local zoning boards must recognize that recovery homes are essential for community health and well-being. My parents have remortgaged their house and have paid tens of thousands to make adaptations to the house to support the worsening mobility of my brother and I, as we have the same progressive neuromuscular condition. However, only so much can be done to make an old, cosy bungalow down a windy country road more accessible. Now, just six months later, I’ve all but lost hope of ever being a renter, never mind a homeowner. My husband and I don’t qualify for social housing because we sit just above the income threshold (€42,000 per annum), and privately renting is out of the question because we just couldn’t afford it... I feel trapped. I feel like no matter what I do, I’ll land myself in a financially precarious situation; do I give up the limited number of hours I do work each week so I can fall within the income threshold for social housing and lose the main source of social participation in my life, or do I continue working and risk never being able to afford to move out?' https://lnkd.in/eUQhQrVn

A reported £650k was spent by West Northamptonshire Council on new paths at Delapré Abbey and I've got questions... To be clear, Delapré Abbey themselves had nothing to do with the development of the paths, it was all down to West Northants Council When you combine this with, ❇️ The new Northampton marketplace, which could have been so much more for a reported £12million ❇️ Accessibility issues on the Persimmon Homes development in Towcester, which I successfully campaigned against and had changes made Is a pattern of mistakes, missed moments and zero engagement with the local disabled community, emerging from all of this? Our Agency opposes the proposed #CABudget cuts to critical services for foster youth. These cuts threaten to reverse positive strides made in recent years to increase stability/permanency for foster kids and prevent homelessness for current and former foster youth. Specifically, we urge our state leaders to safeguard the following programs: Family Urgent Response System, Housing for Foster Youth in Supervised Independent Living Placements, and Housing Navigation and Maintenance Program. #SFHSA #ProtectFURS
