August is the month dedicated to celebrating and honoring the legacies of black owned businesses. Black owned businesses make up about 10% of all #WageEquityWednesday American businesses and if looking more specifically at minority owned businesses they play a 30% role. The journey to dredicating august to black businesses has a history all the way back to 1915 when the first Black National Business League was founded, and it wasn't until 2004 that august was to become an annual celebration in the US. The black business presence, specifically women owned black businesses grew 50% just between the years of 2014 to 2019 and now make up an average of around $24,000 in comparison to $142,900 revenue created by all women owned businesses. It is because of this very same reason this month holds such importance, black businesses should be highlighted as they play an important role not only within our economy but as a society we must make a an effort to keep to support minority owned businesses, this month being Black owned businesses. https://lnkd.in/gp9gQNNB

August signifies Black Business Month! We acknowledge and appreciate Black-owned businesses nationwide. This month highlights the contributions of Black entrepreneurs to the economy and strives to promote diversity and equality in the business world. The history of Black Business Month can be traced back to 2004, when engineering entrepreneur Frederick E. Jordan partnered with John William Templeton, president and executive editor of the scholarly publishing company eAccess Corp., to start this annual event. Since its inception, Black Business Month has grown into a nationwide observance, drawing attention to the economic contributions, innovations, and resilience of Black entrepreneurs across various industries. It serves as a platform to highlight success stories, amplify the voices of Black business leaders, and foster community support and empowerment. Over the years, Black Business Month has evolved to encompass celebration, advocacy, and action. It encourages consumers to support Black-owned businesses, promotes investment in Black entrepreneurship, and calls for policy changes that promote equity and inclusivity in the business world. As we celebrate Black Business Month, it’s essential to support Black-owned businesses actively: ✅ Shop at Black-owned businesses: Patronize Black-owned stores, restaurants, and service providers. ✅ Invest in Black entrepreneurs: Support through investment, crowdfunding, or purchasing shares. ✅ Advocate for policy changes: Support policies that address systemic barriers, such as improved access to capital. ✅ Raise awareness: Use your platform to highlight Black-owned businesses and their contributions. This Black Business Month, let’s commit to making a difference. #BlackBusinessMonth #SupportBlackBusinesses #BlackEntrepreneurs #BlackBusinessExcellence

After a quick Google search, I found that while there are at least two other Black Business Weeks (in Minneapolis and San Antonio), neither has been around longer than 502 Black Business Week®️. This makes our initiative even more unique. Unlike others, which focus on conference-style events, 502 Black Business Week®️ centers on Economic Empowerment while celebrating Juneteenth and recycling the Black dollar. Supporting this movement can put Louisville at the forefront as trendsetters with a concept that can and should be duplicated in other cities. I knew this week was important, which is why it's a registered brand. Louisville, now is the time to get behind what I've created because this initiative is about you and your business. *Minneapolis has the support of their city and mayor, which is a step ahead of Louisville. I'm serious about expanding this to other cities. Since 2018, that was always the goal, and I believe in divine timing. I need your help. I need connectors in at least four other cities—people I know or that you know personally and that I can trust. The goal for 2025 is to have 5 Black Business Weeks happening simultaneously during the week of Juneteenth: one 8th Annual and four inaugural ones. Let's make it happen! #supportblackbusinesses #economicempowerment

In 2025, I plan to enhance our new collaboration with the Sheffield black business community Ruth McDonald @businesssheffield to create greater visibility and a stronger identity for black-owned businesses in the area. Our goal is to not only elevate black vendors but also to welcome businesses that engage with and support the black community. By fostering these connections, we can build a more inclusive network that amplifies our collective impact. One of the key initiatives will be to organize events that showcase the talents and offerings of black-owned businesses while also highlighting those who actively contribute to the empowerment of the black community. We aim to create a vibrant marketplace where diverse business ventures can come together, share resources, and promote their services. Additionally, we will develop marketing campaigns that celebrate black entrepreneurship and encourage the local community to support these businesses. This can include social media promotions, community spotlights, and partnerships with local influencers who align with our mission. Our mantra, "STANDING TALL," will serve as a reminder to every black business that we are proud of our heritage and accomplishments. It symbolizes resilience, unity, and the determination to thrive despite challenges. By standing tall together, we can cultivate a strong sense of identity and pride within the Sheffield black business community. We will also explore mentorship programs and workshops to empower aspiring entrepreneurs with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed. By investing in the next generation, we ensure that the legacy of black entrepreneurship continues to grow and flourish. This is clip from our first Sheffield black businesses award in April 28th 2023 #yagiaward #sheffieldblackbusiness #cruxnxtionevents
